    3. I have just started researching the Bouvier family in Dronero (CN). I wrote the parish there three months ago for a birth record from c. 1848 and have heard nothing. How do you conduct research from a distance when the only source does not respond??? Do you know anyone there who could do the lookup for me? It took six months for my request to a priest to be answered. There is a shortage of priests in Italy, so that many priests are often in charge of a large area and as a result are overworked. Additionally, some priests must take outside employment, such as teaching, to support themselves when contributions from parishioners are not sufficient to live on. Did you include a donation to the church with your request? I enclosed 100,000 lire (about US$50.00) with my request. If you like, you can try writing to the Diocesean office to ask if they have a copy of the record you seek in their archives. Alternately, you can look into hiring a professional researcher.
