Dear List, Can anyone describe to me how the war was fought in Lucania/Basilicata? What parts of the region were affected directly? When we were in Laurenzana a few years ago, with my ( six weeks') of Italian language study, I was able to converse with a gentleman there, but only to the extent of finding out that the Germans and the Americans had, indeed, been there. I would love to learn the entire story. Thank you, Sincerely, Mary McAuliffe Nigro
You may want to join the Basilicata list on YahooGroups - some knowledgeable people there. I'm currently reading a book about Tito in Potenza Province [in Italian, very slow going for me] that briefly mentions WWII and the various war memorials in the different towns. I'm also transcribing all the civil records for Tito, from 1809-1910, which will take me a very long time, but I've come across some Nigro records in the 1809-1815 film. Hi Mary Go to <www.google.com> and type in Lucania world war 11 and then try the other city and do the same. You might want to try <Amazon .com> and see if there is a book on the subject.
