    1. the Ortu family
    2. Hi all I am trying to reach members of the Ortu family living in the USA , Australia and Europe. Originally the Ortu`s are from Sardegna, my parents came from the provonce of Sassari ( I hope I got the spelling right). On my mother side, I am also related to the Mameli, Tiloca, Gaius, Cabizzosu. I would be very interested in corresponding, and exchanging information with family members. Ciao Giuseppe Raymondo Antioco Ortu

    3. Well Jo, after your email with WWI Draft Registration card, really the name town seem St. Salbo wrote, but I can say you that is SAN SALVO town (CHIETI PROVINCE/ABRUZZI REGION/ITALY), your ancestor came in USA the Apr 27, 1912, was 23 old, port of departure: Napoli, Maria wife nearest in Italy, joining Sante brother... if this my info resulting exact for you let me know. The right surname spelling is FRASCA and no FRASCO; SABATINO is right.. For all certificates you can write to San Salvo civil records office: info @ comune.sansalvo.ch.it ( no spaces please). Best regards, suanj

    2. Hi Mary, What are the surnames that you are researching? The Mormon Church [LDS] has microfilmed civil [and some church] records for all of Basilicata [where Vaglio is] and Bari Province. You can rent the films and do your research that way. Go to www.familysearch.org to both find your closest Family History Center and also what films are available. You may want to also go to www.yahoogroups.com and join the Basilicata and Bari groups. I belong to both, and I know there are people with ancestry in Vaglio there who might be able to help you. Do you know the town in Bari province that your ancestor was from? Do a search at Multimap at http://www.multimap.com/ . My Italy travel atlas also lists a Sant'Albano Stura. One thing to remember is that there are many ways to spell that first part of the town name. Could be Saint, San, Sankt, Sant', Santa, Santi, or Santo. Italy phone directory on the Net at http://www.infobel.com/italy has only 9 Frasco listings. You might check the associated town locations that have a proximity to any of the Albe or Alba locations. A letter to some of your distant cousins might be of some use. Good luck. Joe in Texas

    2. Hello, I have the World War 1 Draft Registration card for my husband's great grandfather who emigrated from Italy in approximately 1912-13 to Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, USA. I am trying to decipher the place of birth for my Nicola Frasco. It looks like St. Albe. Do you have ANY suggestions? I have looked over the maps and can't place it. It appears too me that he has someone writing for him on his registration card. I have been unable to find him on a ship coming to America in 1912-13, as of yet. His wife's name is Maria Sabatino Frasco. His son is Charles Frasco born in 1910 in Italy. Both Nicola and Maria were born abt. 1890. I do not know what Charles real birth name in Italy was. His social security application list him as Charles. Census records list him as Charley or Charles. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can forward the card image if needed. THANK YOU SO VERY VERY MUCH!!!!!! Jo Dee Frasco

    1. Lannos and Rannos in Montreal
    2. Snook
    3. Hello, I'm trying to find information on 2 branches of my family, the Rannos and the Lannos The Rannos from Caserta / sicily/ something... I'm not sure. But not the north. Guiseppe Ranno came to north america in about 1901 at the port of Boston and then came up to montreal in 1909 I think that's all I know His future wife Maria Pioggia Arena came to north america at an undetermined time, but I guess around the same time with her adoptive parents Carmelo and Vincienza Arena. They came with Carmelo Arena jr. and another adopted child Joe Rizzo (who kept his original name, whereas Maria combined hers -- Pioggia Arena) They were married in Montreal The Lannos The Lannos are from Campobasso, Ripabottoni. Dominico (D.H. Lanno) was married to Maria Vannelli (yes, she is related to Gino Vannelli) I'm not sure if they were married here or in Italy. But I do know that when D.H. Lanno came to canada, he came with a brother, Guisseppe. D.H. Lanno was born on or about Sept. 27th (my birthday too) 1888 and died the 23 of Jan. 1939 -- he was 51 -- there was a write-up in the Montreal star (now defunct) about his funeral, wherein over 300 people attended including the Societa M.S. Ripobottonesi which he was apparently the secretary for. I have written to them and from what I understand, (my italian isn't fantastic) their old records have been dispersed. His mother was Maria michele Silvaggio and her parents Domenico Silvaggio and Maria Galanto. His father was Franceso Antonio Lanno whose parents were Domenico Lanni and Caterina Carbone. Maria Vannelli's mother was Maria Domenica DiLiello whose parents were Michele Di Liello and Maria Guiseppa Paduano. Her father was Domenico Vannelli and his parents were Ascanio Vannelli and Angela Maria Venditti. I have a feeling that a whole ton of them came to Montreal because all of these (sur)names were on D.H. Lanno's obit. in the montreal star. Maybe not these people, but relatives from Ripobottoni. Ok I'm writing all of this in case ANY of it rings a bell and a) someone can verify / further expand on this info b) tell me where I can verify it myself, and c) maybe I can inform someone else and find a relative. Thanks for reading this whole tome -Candace
