    3. Hello Ray, I hope I can help you a little. Let's see... I found some posts of yours googling "Gaetano Taroni". List of all Taroni's on the current Italian phone directory: <http://elenco.libero.it/elenco/regioni.jsp?cognome=taroni> It looks like Como is one of the places where Taroni's are, so your family legend could well be true. do you know this website? <http://taroni.free.fr/genealogie/> It says lots of interesting information about Taroni families. According to the 1881 census he was born in 1820 in Italy, as you already know. His job is licenced victualler. Is this a similiar to a landlord? I just ask out of curiosity. Also in there there's a dwelling stret address: 42 Liddell Street. Have you tried and see in local church or civil archives (I'm not familiar with British archives) wether you could find a marriage act, a birth act for his child(ren) or a death act, his or his wife's ? Maybe in one of them there's a clearer indication of where in Italy Gaetano was from. I've found a reference to him getting married in 1848. See: Marriages Mar 1846 Surname Given Name District Volume Page Taroni Gaetano W London 2 233 The district W London is an alternative name for West London and it spans the boundaries of the counties of London and Middlesex> Charles Taroni, his son, also has a reference: Births Sep 1845 Surname Given Name District Volume Page Taroni Charles Holborn II 149 Hope I could help a little. 1. Where to find Census and Social Security Info
    2. Mary & Bob Oberg
    3. Hello I thought I would just add my two cents here. I know that Ancestry seems to have most of the census years, but not all. If you don't have subscription to Ancestry, there are alternatives to this. One is heritagequestonline.com This is usually carried in most libraries but is usually an in house use or if they have webpage you have to enter your library card number in to use this service. www.familysearch.org has the 1880 census on line and it is free to use there site. www.rootsweb.com and www.familysearch.org both have the social security death index available free of charge. The only thing that would cost if you want the social security application then the government will charge. I don't know the cost presently and it seems everything is going up so don't want to say. Hope this helps someone! Mary 2obergs@kewanee.com

Fabio, Another note -- in the 1930 census the Vincent Diorio is listed as a "clothing cutter." I have found a WW1 Draft Registration for a Vincent Diorio b. 15 Sep 1888 Salerno, Italy whose occupation is listed as a "clothing cutter." Maybe there is a connection. Mike

Fabio, Below is the only family which seems to match, however, it shows that Vincent was born in NY. I tried to find them in 1920 to see if that may be an error but have been unsuccessful. 1930 United States Federal Census ------------------------------------------------------------------ Name Family Members Home in 1930 (City,County,State) Estimated Birth Year Birthplace Relation Vincent Diorio Bergenfield, Bergen, NJ abt 1889 New York Head Millie Diorio Bergenfield, Bergen, NJ abt 1897 Wife Anthony Diorio Bergenfield, Bergen, NJ abt 1918 Son Alfred Diorio Bergenfield, Bergen, NJ abt 1920 Son Mildred Diorio Bergenfield, Bergen, NJ abt 1924 Daughter Source Information: Ancestry.com. 1930 United States Federal Census. [database on-line] Provo, UT: Ancestry.com, 2002. Indexed by Ancestry.com from microfilmed schedules of the 1930 U.S. Federal Decennial Census.1930 United States Federal Census. [database online] Provo, UT: Ancestry.com, 2001. Data imaged from National Archives and Records Administration. 1930 Federal Population Census. T626, 2,667 rolls. Washington, D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration. I did find a Vincent Diorio who arrived in the U. S. in 1893 with his siblings. Don't know if there is any connection. Mike
