Can't answer your question about a census in Italy. However, please post where you found your family in 1910 and 1930. Perhaps they were just misnamed in 1920. Mike

    1. message for Mike (archangel@heaven.com)
    2. sorry, your e-mail wouldn't work when I tried to reply. You e-mailed me the Vanella family in the 1920 census today. I wanted to start by saying thank you. I appreciate your time. Once you gave me this name, I went back to the 1900 census (just out of curiosity) and typed in that name again. I found what looks like Michael Vanella (agnello) with his parents and family, again in phila, ward 2. I'm a little confused..... Does this mean that my family name is Vanella and not Agnella? Is it possible that they screwed up the name in two different census'? I don't really know what my next step is now that this new name has popped up. I have a lookup out for Michael and Millie's marriage cert. in phila. in the hopes that it will have parent names on it but I don't know now if I should have asked for vanella instead. Any advice is appreciated. Laura Agnella hope you get this e-mail.

    1. census
    2. Hello, Just a quick question: Is there a census in Italy? I found my relatives in the 1930 US census and in the 1910. They don't however, seem to exist in the 1920. Being that the husband was born in Italy, I thought maybe he had taken them there and that would explain why they seem to have "disappeared" for the 1920 census. Is there a way to check the Italy census if there is one? If anyone has it on CD or has other access, I would really appreciate the help. Here are the names just in case: Thanks in advance. Michael Agnella/o: would be about 33 in 1920. Born in Italy Millie/Mildred : wife - would be 32 Children: Joseph, Angelo, Frank, Mary, Carrie Thanks again, Laura Agnella

    3. Hi! The correct name for the place, as already pointed out, seems to be Cattolica Eraclea. It's a town in the province of Agrigento. There are 14 Guerreri listed on the phone directory here: <http://elenco.libero.it/elenco/result.jsp? comune=CATTOLICA+ERACLEA&nMethod=2 &provincia=AG&regione=SICILIA&cognome=GURRERI+&cMethod=2> Among the others, there are 2 Lorenzo Guerreri living there. As names are often renewed, even nowadays, in Southern Italy, they might well be relative of yours. On Ellisisland I found him: First Name: Lorenzo Last Name: Guerreri Ethnicity: Italy Italian South Last Place of Residence: Cattolica, Girgenti Date of Arrival: Jan 19, 1909 Age at Arrival: 27y Gender: M Marital Status: M Ship of Travel: Moltke Port of Departure: Naples Manifest Line Number: 0006 He arrived in 1909, with his wife, Giuseppa (wrongly spelt Giuseppa) (english. Josephine): First Name: Guiseppa Last Name: Guerreri Ethnicity: Italy Italian South Last Place of Residence: Cattolica, Girgenti Date of Arrival: Jan 19, 1909 Age at Arrival: 22y Gender: F Marital Status: M Ship of Travel: Moltke Port of Departure: Naples Manifest Line Number: 0007 Cattolica is surely Cattolica Eraclea, and Girgenti is an old name for Agrigento. There's also maybe a daughter, Anna: First Name: Anna Last Name: Guerreri Ethnicity: Italy Italian South Last Place of Residence: Cattolica, Girgenti Date of Arrival: Jan 19, 1909 Age at Arrival: 2y Gender: F Marital Status: S Ship of Travel: Moltke Port of Departure: Naples Manifest Line Number: 0008 But her name is deleted by pen on the ship passenger list. Lorenzo left his father in Italy, but there doesn't seem to be a name in there (I can't read well the paper). You can also see the web site for the commune of Cattolica Eraclea here: <http://www.comune.cattolicaeraclea.ag.it/> There's a commune named Vallelunga Pratameno in Sicily, but there doesn't seem to be Termini's, nowadays. <http://www.comune.vallelunga.cl.it/> Family History Centers have lots of information about Vallelunga: - Civil Records from 1821 to 1910 (Births, marriages, banns, deaths, citizenship records, miscellaneous documents, supplements.) - A book by Lorenzo Cipolla, Le famiglie di Vallelunga: genealogia dalle origini al 1990 (Families from Vallelunga: a Genealogy from origins to 1990) You'll probably find mention about Termini family in there. About Cattolica Eraclea, civil records from 1821 to 1910 are available, too (Civil registers from the municipality of Cattolica Eraclea in the province of Agrigento. Some registers include an index) You could also try and write to the 2 Communes and State Archives to ask for more info. Cattolica Eraclea: <anagrafe@comune.cattolicaeraclea.ag.it> Vallelunga Pratameno: <f.guagenti@comune.vallelunga.cl.it> State Archive Agrigento: <asag@archivi.beniculturali.it> State Archive Caltanissetta: <ascl.segreteria@virgilio.it> and <clatorrisi@katamail.com> I've already written them. I'll let you know if they reply. Hope I could help a little, Fabio In article <1143758754.584546.45650@e56g2000cwe.googlegroups.com>, BECKAWOLF@AOL.COM says... > MY GREAT GRANDFATHER LORENZO GURRERI WAS FROM CATTOLICA ERECTEA, > SICILY, ITALY AND I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FIND HIS PARENTS NAMES BUT > EVERY ATTEMPT HAS FAILED OR BROUGHT ME BACK TO WHERE I STARTED. > LORENZO MARRIED JOSEPHINE TERMINI AND THEN AFTER SHE DIED HE MARRIED > HER SISTER ROSA TERMINI. 1. Agnella/o
    2. Hello, I just joined the list (an restarted my research). I have AGNELLA relatives who may be either alive or deceased in the Philadelphia area. This is my husbands side of the family and ties were broken off between my father in-law and his father. I have some names and dates but was just wondering if anyone might recognize anything. I know from the 1930 census that Michael Agnella/o came over from Italy in 1900 at about the age of 10 (born in 1887) but can't find anything that matches in the ancestry immigration records. His parents were both from Italy as well and I assume either they or an older sibling traveled with him. I don't even know how to go about finding his immigration records other that looking on ancestry.com. Thanks for taking the time. Here is the info: Michael Agnella/o Born in 1887 in Italy - parents both from Italy, names unknown Immigrated in 1900 Resided in Philadephia Married Mildred Comadeco in 1907 Children: Angelo (my grandfather-in-law) Frank Mary Carrie Joseph Thanks so much for looking, Laura Agnella

Perhaps the De has been dropped in the name over time. Is the name one word or can it be De (or Di) Cavalli?

Believe you have the second part of the name mispelled in your post, should be an "l" insteal of a "t". There are no Termini listings in VALLELUNGA, which shows, by the way, to be in Gallo Matese, not in Sicily. CALTANISSETTA is in Sicily, and the phone directory shows 15 Termini listings there. 1. surnames Diorio and Terranova

    3. Just saw the post for the Diorio search. I've researched my Grandmother Maria D' Orio for my family and there are a lot of coincidences. Grandma came from a small Frazione callded Galdo in the foothills of Sicignano Degli Alburni about 25 km East of Salerno. There's a 2nd Franzione about 5 km from Galdo called TERRANOVA. The name Diorio shows up in many different forms on Birth, Marriage, ... certificates we located. Diorio seems to be the 'Americanized' version of D' Orio, D' Jorio, De Orio, Di Orio, ... During our search we cataloged the Ellis Island indexes. Below is all the Giacomo's & Vincenzo's from 1892 - 1910 we found which shows all the different variations for Diorio. Hope this helps.
