Dear Gus Although I am not a fluent Italian speaker (my maternal grandparents came from Etroubles and Aosta), I have read some Italian literature as well as literature in other languages, including poetry. The Italian word for "fragrance/aroma/smell" is "odore", so in the first phrase of the line, "odo" seems to mean "I hear". In the second phrase, "odo" is understood by the word "io" ("I"). A fairly literal translation of the whole line would be: "And as I hear the wind rustling among these plants, I [hear] that endless silence, these voices..." He stayed in Ballarat for 10 years, then settled in Yandoit, married Annie Elizabeth Phillips and had about 13 children. I have some other info on another Antonio that came out to Australia. So far all I have been able to learn about them is about my great grandfather. Here is the information that I have on him...born 1 Jan 1883 in Italy and died 18 May 1957. I think he died in Pennslvania but not 100% sure. His children's names were Anthony, Sylvester, Jospehine, John, Catherine, Grace and Jennie (Giovannia). I have absolutely no information on my great grandmother and that is really what I am in search of. There are 937 Agosto, 1,700 Agosta, 8,000 plus D'Agostino, and no Vagostino listings in the Italy phone directory on the Net at http://www.infobel.com/italy/. Many of the D'Agostino listings are businesses operated by family members. You need to know what town the families came from. Do you know when they came to the USA? What sources have you used so far to find what you have about them? Census returns? Immigration records? Joe
