    3. I am just reading a book where MANY returned to the homeland for periods of time...in the book it states they basically were 'family' people and missed the family's!!!! I can relate!!! The Ellis Island Records are only arrival in the US records. So far as anyone knows at this time, there are not viewable records of people leaving.. --- Mom2TynCass <Crochetlegacy@hotmail.com> wrote: > I have a question! > > However, there is no mistake that these are my > Grandfather and his family. > But I am wondering, do manifest only discuss the > arrival of immegrants or do > they also tell us about leaving the US as well. > If they are just arrivals, > I have to assume that my grandfather's family > went back to Italy for a visit > and this is their return. > > Thanks!! > > -- > Karen > http://www.crochetlegacy.com > > Researching: Ratto, Paoletti, Parducci, Perata > > > > ============================== > To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion > online genealogy records, go to: > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237 > ===== Margie Papa Researching: Alterisio, Borrelli, Canfora, Cappelletti, Carusillo, Checchio, Durso, Guzzo, Iananntono, Papa, Roberto, Ronzone Alberona, Roseto Valfortore, San Marco LaCatola and Volturara Appula/Foggia/Italy __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? 3. Try www.familysearch.org Go to top of page and click on site map Go down the page of links that you will get and click on Resources.. That will be about 2/3 down the page... Click on "I" for Italy This will give you a list of the microfilm you can order at a FHC on Italy. Hope this helps. I am either not doing this right or am very unlucky that the reocords I want are not available. Could someone help me by double checking? I tried using the FHLC looking for the town (not on the list) and the region (there but not many records at all). I am looking for: Orco Feglino, Savona, Liguria, Italy and Bagnolo Piemonte, Cuneo, Piemonte, Italy. Thank you in advance !!! 3. Meet another person who wrote to Maddaloni, Italy and received any and all records requested without paying. Marriage records, death records and marriage contracts. I did enclose a couple of return address labels for them to stick on their envelopes. I have also written to Matera, Italy on behalf of my cousin for records of his family and received a bill requesting payment for the information they had on file. I sent them $10.00 US currency and they sent the documentation and the change in the form of Italian stamps. I found that the smaller towns do not request the money. I would recommend to go without the money and only enclose the return address labels. It will cost them to return a letter to you requesting monies, but it will also indicate that they do have the information on file. I have never sent a self-addressed envelope. They have their own government issued envelopes. Mike

    3. Hello, I was wondering if anyone is doing research on these surnames (Pensabene & Pellicano)? All I know about my great grandmother is: Name: Pellicano, Santa > Ethnicity: Italian > Place of Residence: Gallico > Date of arrival: November 02, 1902 > Age at arrival: 13y > Gender: F > Marital Status: S > Ship: Sicilian Prince > Port of dept.: Naples, Campania, Italy And she married my great grandfather Pasquale Pensabene. He was from Calabria. That is all that I know about them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Jeannine

Most people I know who have actually recieved records from Italy never send a self addressed envelope. They include 5 or 10 dollars for one record and 10 or 15 for two or three records. Don't despair, I have heard of a few individuals who sent no payment with their request who did get the records they asked for along with a bill. I even know one guy who got his records and no bill, and a couple of people who got change. I suppose it all depends on the official who opens your request. You have to realize that, generally speaking, it's really stretching things a bit to expect somebody in another country to send you information without some kind of payment in advance. Money talks. 1. FERRARI and BERNI
    2. Hello, I'm researching the town of origin for my family line of the FERRARI and BERNI names with the focus around Parma. Giovanni FERRARI (b.1865), father Antonio and mother Lucia FERRARI. And Teresa BERNI (b.1870), father Antonio and mother Anna Maria or Maria RESTANI (b.1830-1). Brother Antonio and Louis (liquor store owners in Brooklyn). Giovanni, a furrier, was in the US by 1887, they were married in New York City, 1 Feb 1891. I have some reason to believe the town may be Bardi, or a nearby one. I was given the oral history information that the town name was Bari. However, I choose to begin with the assumption that the Bari memory had been corrupted. Since so many FERRARI and BERNIs originate from Northern Italy (not Bari), a preliminary search showed there to be a very high concentration of FERRARI/BERNI names in Bardi. Not Bari. Then there's Bore also. Does anyone know the history of a town named Bore, near Bardi in the North? I have seen it on one map and no information comes up on the Internet. How about Barge, Badi, Varsi, and other similar sounding names? I have researched the DIRENZO and DIMUCCIO names, and others from Alife in the Campania region back to 1680. I would like to achieve the same results for these FERRARI and BERNI families. Of course, all new information is of enormous value. Thank you. If I can be of any assistance through sharing information and my research experience in Italy and in general, please let me know. Best Regards, Tom
