2. In a message dated 3/16/02 4:25:31 PM Pacific Standard Time, Ms4649@aol.com writes: > From the Ellis Island site I found: > Sante Dolce age 20, single, from Caccamo, arriving NY April 27,1905 on the > ship Hamburg sailing out of Naples. > To read more about this individual you will need to go to the Ellis Site. > http://home.pacbell.net/spmorse/ellis > If this is your person, you can request a copy of this manifest from NARA - write the regional office nearest you. You can also then write the same NARA office and ask if he was naturalized. Or you can write the Chicago office who may well have a copy of his naturalization - if he was naturalized. I've found them to be very helpful and resourceful when confronted with limited information. The ship manifest will cost $17.50, the naturalization will be inexpensive and contain several pages which may not be of great use but are nice to have in the genealogy file. Check the 1920 census if you aren't sure of his status - alien or citizen. It'll tell you what year he was naturalized (if he was) and that will send you on your way to obtaining the records. As in my other email sent privately, you can have Illinois Archives check the census for you free of charge but it'll take a while for them to get back to you.

    3. Well, it's worth a shot: I'm trying to find out as much as I can about my Grandfather's family. His name was Santo Dolce and I believe he was from Caccamo (or the vicinity) Sicily. He was married to Anna Barone, and he passed in 1963 in Chicago IL. Any ideas how I could get more than what is available on the SS death site? Mille grazie, Dennis

    2. Hello Dennis, Do you have any more information to go on? Such as the approx. year of arrival? Was he a citizen of the US? Do you have a copy of his naturalization papers? Are you certain of the first name? Could it have been another name and he went by Santo? Was he married to Anne Barone before he came to the US? Have you visited any sites online to see if anyone is searching for your relative? try checking these sites: www.familysearch.org www.ancestry.com From the Ellis Island site I found: Sante Dolce age 20, single, from Caccamo, arriving NY April 27,1905 on the ship Hamburg sailing out of Naples. To read more about this individual you will need to go to the Ellis Site. http://home.pacbell.net/spmorse/ellis Good luck. 3. 3/14/02 My family is fron Suio Castelforte, Prov. Latina Italy My father was born in Castelforte. His name Francesco, His father was Vincenzo son of Don Antonio and Marianna Vecchio. My grandfather Vincenzo had two or three brothers. One was Salvatore who migrated to Herkimer NY. His brother Domenico, I believe stayed in Castelforte. I do not know if he had any sisters. I do know that he died in 1957 at the age of 85. He and my grandmother had been married 64 years. My grandfather was married to Carolina Mastrillo. I understand that Don Antonio was not born in Castelforte but in Ravello. He was born in 1841 reason I know this, is that he died in 1926 at the age of 85. I know that he had a sister Adeline. I believe he had some brothers - named Salvatore, Francesco, Giuseppe probalby Domenico. Somewhere along the line there was a female member of the family named Emma. It is my understanding that Emma was a big spender (purchased items by the dozen) and a gambler. She was supposed to have gambled away the family fortune. I would like to know more about Antonio since he was quite a character from what my parents told me about him. Since he came from an aristocratic family he hardly worked. He loved to play cards and he drank wine. He sang in the church choir but yet when he died, he was not brought to any church, he had a band play in front of every contina and he also had wine, cigars and a deck of cards in his coffin. My mother was there when he died. She was also there when his third wife died. My mother said that he built her coffin about a week before she died. Some character! I hope that someone will e-mail me. Would love to hear from you. My e-mail is laline457@yahoo.com. Thank you for listening or should I say reading about my father's family. Caroline Fusco Miraglia

    3. I would think if you had your receipt for your rentals, and they should have this on record, you could get them back to your FHC for free. They are not suppose to return them till YOU tell them to. If they at the FHC give you a problem about doing this, write to Salt Lake City. Diane Good heavens--under $5!! When we borrow the microfilms they're $3.75 each, $3.75 to renew, and another $3.75 to get them on indefinite loan. After I did that for a number of microfilms, I found out that the last director of our local FHC decided to send *all* the microfilms back to Salt Lake City, "indefinite loan" or not! So the $10 I paid for each microfilm (running into the dozens, easily), I might have to pay again in the future. Still cheaper than going to Italy though! --Gina

    3. At the end of January 2002 the Anglo-Italian list was created as a discussion forum for those who are researching their Anglo-Italian Ancestry. (Anglo-Italian-L-request@rootsweb.com) Through discussion on the list it has become apparent that there is no formal Society is available to such researchers and thus researching Anglo-Italian Ancestry can be rather isolating. It was felt that the long term aims would be to: 1. Form a Anglo-Italian Family History Society 2. To develop a web page for links and other useful bits of information. Both of these are to run along side the Anglo-Italian Mailing List and it is intended that this will be open to all those researching in this area, and it is hoped that those without Internet Access will also benefit. Italian Genealogy Web Page http://www.dreamwater.net/anglersrest/Italian.htm The Italian Genealogy Page now has a mention of the formation of a Society, and asks those interested to join the Anglo-Italian list. ORLANDO Page http://www.dreamwater.net/anglersrest/Orlando.htm which holds info on the One Name Study and the Orlando List. Italian Links Web Page http://www.dreamwater.net/anglersrest/Italianlinks.htm Nothing there yet! but we are in the process of gathering material for this site. ANY suggestions are welcome. 3. Hi Eric, my name's Alfredo FRANCO, I'm a young italian student and geneologist. Some mounths ago I researched in Ruvo del Monte (PZ) for a family Iannelli and so I had more "friends" in Ruvo. I explain You some other things: 1) In the Stato Civile Office of Ruvo the research isn't possible by PRIVACY or only by authorization of the last descendant of people who wants the notice (this people have to be a descendant of Vitantonio if not the 'iter' is more complex); 2) Only hope at this point is the priest that I meet for the Iannelli's research. I can research now for the Lettieri if You want, for $ 30 per hour! 3. I'm wondering if someone can help direct me where to write to obtain birth information in Ruvo Del Monte? Specifically, I am hoping to find the birth address for Vitantonio Lettieri who was born in 1900 to Giovanni Lettieri and Maria Giuseppe (Grieco) Lettieri. He later joined a nearby monastery and became a Francescan monk under the name of Brother Aloysius, and I’m not sure how to go about confirming a record of his time there (I’m guessing it might have been either il convento di Sant'Antonio in San Fele or Convento San Francesco in Potenza). Much thanks in advance for any help you can provide with these 2 matters !! Eric Zimmerman (eric.zimmerman@kodak.com)
