NOVO 280 in Italy at this time - mostly found in Piemonte with 10 in the Province of Torino. Reference: http://gens.labo.net/it/cognomi/ http://elenco.iol.it/elencotel/public/RicercaOmonimie.jsp You can also use the Italian Online Phone Directory to look up current Novo listings, addresses and telephone numbers. Infosearch even has email listings. The only way to find out for sure where your ancestors came from is to trace backwards. Starting with yourself - go backwards gathering record by record, you to your parents, to grandparents, etc and finally to the town where the original immigrant was born because the most important step in doing your initial research is to find out exactly what comune in Italy your ancestors came from. 3. Following from my last posting. Just to advise everyone that The date of the Inaugural Meeting of the Anglo-Italian Family History Society has been arranged. For further details please see the Web Page http://www.dreamwater.net/anglersrest/Italian.htm ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mrs Julie Goucher" <anglers.rest@virgin.net> Newsgroups: soc.genealogy.italian Sent: Wednesday, March 13, 2002 5:36 PM Subject: Anglo-Italian Research At the end of January 2002 the Anglo-Italian list was created as a discussion forum for those who are researching their Anglo-Italian Ancestry. (Anglo-Italian-L-request@rootsweb.com) Through discussion on the list it has become apparent that there is no formal Society is available to such researchers and thus researching Anglo-Italian Ancestry can be rather isolating. It was felt that the long term aims would be to: 1. Form a Anglo-Italian Family History Society 2. To develop a web page for links and other useful bits of information. Both of these are to run along side the Anglo-Italian Mailing List and it is intended that this will be open to all those researching in this area, and it is hoped that those without Internet Access will also benefit. Italian Genealogy Web Page http://www.dreamwater.net/anglersrest/Italian.htm The Italian Genealogy Page now has a mention of the formation of a Society, and asks those interested to join the Anglo-Italian list. ORLANDO Page http://www.dreamwater.net/anglersrest/Orlando.htm which holds info on the One Name Study and the Orlando List. Italian Links Web Page http://www.dreamwater.net/anglersrest/Italianlinks.htm Nothing there yet! but we are in the process of gathering material for this site. ANY suggestions are welcome. 3. OK, nevermind. I figured it out myself and found my grandfather, complete with a miss-spelled first name (looking at the script on the manifest it's easy to see how this happened). One puzzle, though, is I can't locate my grandmother. According to the info at the Ellis Island site, my grandfather was single when he came here, and I know my grandmother's name, but have no idea of her city of origin nor of her date of birth. The SS site lists nothing, which isn't unusual as she probably never registered with the SS administration. Where might I find marriage records for the city of Chicago to see if I can get a lead on her. any other ideas?
