    3. My great-grandmother, came to America in April of 1902, listed on the ships manifest is Ida Bartalena, her childred here as follows: Maria, Irma (later changed to Emma), Italia (later changed to Louisa), and Ernesto. My grandmother was Maria, and on her marriage certificate, her mother's (Ida)maiden name is listed as Tellini. I'm looking for anyone who may have any of these people in their family trees. Ernesto much later changed his name to Ernest Joseph Bartolane, and claims to be born in Corsica, France, that information was obtained from his application for his social security number. This part of the family is truly a mystery ....

I saw on Tv that many descendants of Italians are applying for the Italian/E.C. passport in Argentina (especially after the bankrupt). I think that a visit to the Consulate should be the first step in the U.S. too (with the advantage that in the U.S. you woun't find any row at the Consulate door!) 2. Al Gedye
    3. Hi everyone. We are researching my wife's family and have run into a wall. The name is Carano. Her Grandfather (Tomasso married to Filomena Di'Parula) landed in New York between 1910 and 1915. We know that he ran a Deli on the East Side until he left for Canada around 1917. While in New York they lived at 320 E.115th St. It is prior to New York that we run into the problem. If anyone has any information on this branch of the Carano family Please let me know. AL --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). [snip] Dear Grace, Thank you. It is very kind of you to think of me. I have heard some stories about connections a little closer to San Fele like Atella, Rapone, Ruvo del Monte and Bella but so far no stories about Tito, which is below the big city of Potenza. (but I am keeping an open mind about it) http://www.itwg.com/city.asp?CITY=5498 http://www.italiandirectory.com/content/provinces_of_italy/baslicata.html The Atella / San Fele Connection is very strong for many Sanfelese because even now the best way to travel from Roma or Napoli to San Fele is to take the main highway towards Bari and then take the Atella Exit and go down through to San Fele. I wasn't even absolutely positive, until late last October that my grandfather was born in San Fele because one of my father's older brothers kept *insisting* that grandfather was born in Atella. San Fele finally answered my request for his birth record and so its a "for sure" with their stamp of approval on it :-)) A researcher friend has been making copies for me of the LDS films showing the Nigro Surname back to 1812 in San Fele but I still have a gap between 1878, which the comune document shows as his birth, and 1860 when the LDS Films for San Fele stop. I am hoping that more records from the comune will give me the missing years. The town is very understaffed and they have just had a major landslide so I can only keep hoping and praying for answers. 3. If you know the year and the month all states have a service for about 5$ and you can get her death certificate. A 10 year search cost about 25$. Goto this website <www.state.xx.us/>. For the cemetary the local phonebook will get you all the local cemetaries. Then call or write them and they will will respond this has worked for me.
