    3. I'm looking for a man I met and fell in love with 25 years ago in 1977. He lived above Creccos, an Italian restaurant in Chambersburg, the Italian section of Trenton, NJ on Morris Avenue and Anderson Street. His name is Michael B. I forgot his last name. He was a soldier in the Mafia. I'm not involved in law enforcement of any kind. I am just interested in finding out if he is ok and hopefully speaking to him on the phone. He's about 6'2'', brown eyes and hair, very attractive, well built, and in his 50s now. He was very popular with the ladies and called them Cara Mia. I would appreciate any information you can provide, especially his last name.

    3. Mauro You have me confused. In Italy the women keeps her family name when she marries. It is the American thing for the women to accept the family name of the husband when she marries. When checking passenger ship listings I have found with my grandparents traveling from Italy to America the following. On the ships manifest when traveling with Michele Setaro, my grand mother, was identified only by her first name, Carmela. When traveling by herself the ships manifest listed my grandmother as Carmela Pascarella, her family name. When I obtained an Italian passport for my wife, she is identified as Jeri Shillington and not Jeri Setaro as on all Italian documents. Shillington is her family (maiden) name and as long as she is an Italian citizen she will be known as Jeri Shillington and not Jeri Setaro. A recent example was when she attempted to travel to Italy on Alitalia. Our flight tickets was made for Jeri Setaro and it confused the boarding agent when she presented her Italian passport identifying her as Jeri Shillington. She then had to produce her American passport to verify the name on the ticket was her name. When researching a women's name in Italy, because the women keeps her family name, it is easy to trace the women's side of the family line. In America the names on my mail box is Michael and Jeri Setaro. In Italy my mail box will have Michael Setaro and Jeri Shillington. I hope this makes it clear about maiden names between the two countries. Mike Setaro

If I am not wrong (my english isn't very good) the maiden name is the family name before the marriage. After the maiden gets the family name of the husband. If this is correct in Italy is the same..... Example: Rossi Anna is daughter of Rossi Marco and Neri Adele (she gets the family name of the father usually) she gets married with Verdi Alberto and becomes: Rossi Anna in Verdi or shortly Verdi Anna or else Verdi Anna n. (nata=born) Rossi (this form is much used in mortuary) hope this will help best regards Mauro

    3. My great grandmother arrived in the US under her "maiden name" Lia. In the United States she always went by her married name which was Martucci. I have a photo of her grave in Italy and she is listed Giacomina Lia Ves Martucci and it also has a photograph of her on it. 3. I have heard/read that numerous times from people living in america and those living in foreign countries. In Italy today, during a woman's lifetime her legal name is always her 'maiden' name..until it is put on her gravestone. This is only one example: My paternal grandmother died at 97 in this country, in the year 1974, never did she use her 'married' name... We have friends that travel to the home comune 3 times a year, they have told me all the women in this particular (I will not say all) comune, go by thier birth names. So I would say it is 'more' common than not. --- Ob1KnOb <Forged@ddr.es> wrote: > > Italians and many other > > nationalities don't have maiden names -that is > an > > american thing---but it had the names of her > > parents in Italy!! > > uh? who told You that? > If I am not wrong (my english isn't very good) > the maiden name is the family > name before the marriage. > After the maiden gets the family name of the > husband. If the forum can not except the document send it to me and maybe I can help no guarantees also no charge. I thought of one more site that might help www.ellisislandrecords.org. On her son's birth certificate it is recorded as Gottimarty but on another certificate it is recorded as Cadamatia. Bearing in mind the fact that she could not read or write I imagine that the English registrar wrote down what he thought he heard when confronted with an unusual name in a thick Italian accent. I have tried researching these names with no success. Can anybody make any suggestion to what her name might of been. The only other information I have is that she may of came from the Genoa region of Italy. Many thanks Vince

Not only did it have her 'birth' name--Italians and many other nationalities don't have maiden names -that is an american thing---but it had the names of her parents in Italy!! --- Vince <vpicozzi@NOSPAMblueyonder.co.uk> wrote: > I am having a problem in trying to find out my > great grand mother's maiden > name. > On her son's birth certificate it is recorded as > Gottimarty but on another > certificate it is recorded as Cadamatia. In English, but it is very bad!!!: Hello, italo americans friends, I am French, born in Algeria, and I am actually living in the south of France. One of my french ascendants is coming ,between 1805 and 1809 in Napoli,I think with the armies of Napoleon. Then, three generations are maried with Napolitan or Sicilian women(Cefala Diana) About 1889,they are coming in Algeria with Italian nationality and became French. I would like an information: Does anybody know if I can find the military record of my ascendant in Napoli?(I don' t Know from where, in France,he was coming) and I would like exchange informations with somebody who is looking about families in Cefala Diana: D' Agro,Scarpulla,Trentacosti, Antinoro Thank you,and excuse my mistakes! http://geneweb.geneanet.org/dmas et/ou http://www.geneaweb.org/dmas

Because of the large number of Italians who moved to South America, I put translations in Spanish on my database, http://SurnamesByTown.com, the site that's organized the sensible way: by the ancestral town. It now covers Sicily, Campania (the provinces of Avellino, Benevento, Caserta, Napoli and Salerno) and Basilicata (the provinces of Potenza and Matera) Tom

    3. There's a new release (V3.4.7) of KStableau: free software to make elegant hyperlinked trees of your family data, so you can visualize descendant and ancestor relationships and publish them on the web (rather than just boring text). Also, if you have some inbreeding in your family, you can better understand it from a chart. What you need is a gedcom file (exported from your regular genealogical program). KStableau does the rest. There are more then 80 known sites that have used the program to publish a family tree. Check out http://www.home.zonnet.nl/kstableau/index.html for examples, an intro and the software download. Tom de Neef --- PS: If you already downloaded V3.4, check the list on the site what's changed; nothing essential.

    2. Christian Joffredo
    3. Hello, I am searching information about my family in Italy. My wife's great-grandfather and great-grandmother was born in Torino. Can someone tell me how I can find their birth's certificate. Jean Baptiste Appendini was born in Torino the 18/09/1875, its patents were Emmanuel Appendini and Franscesca Novero. Laura Dolinger was born in Torino the 11/08/1881, her mother were Carolina Dolinger. Jean Baptiste and Laura married themselves probably at Torino before the birth of their son Emmanuel, born the 24/12/1902 at Torino. Other question, I have just discovered that my name is present in Italy near Napoli and Genoa Could someone say me if it is possible that the name Joffrédo may be Italian's origin and if this name means something. Many Thanks. Christian Joffrédo from Brittany on the West of France.
