    2. If his name is crossed off then he most likely did not board the ship, he may have been on the next one. there were many reasons that people did not go on the ships they were supposed to, one is health, the had to be healthy (on the standard of the day)among other reasons Joni Josaun@webtv.net http://www.picks.tv/texandy/charter.html

    2. Steven Bon
    3. Hello everyone! I am brand new to the list so if I cover things that have already been discussed please forgive me. I am looking for information on my grandfather, Giovanni Antonio Gneo. This is his birth name, but when he became an American citizen he Americanized his name to John Anthony Geno. I know that he was born in Alatri on 7 Feb 1891 and was suppose to have come to US in 1905. I found him on a ship manifest, the Madonna, but his name was crossed out. His parents were Salvatore Gneo b. 10 Aug 1853 in Alatri and Benedetta Mangiapelo Gneo b. 9 Sept 1857 in Alatri. Can anyone help me find information on my grandfather's family in Alatri? 2. The only surnames close in my POINT directory are, Gaspardone (Frinco).... Gasparini (Pieve di Campi).... Gaspari (Colonella and Gissi)... these represent names that are being reasearched by some one and the town the name is believed to be from. 2. You might send for the films of the passenger lists for other ports, New Orleans, Boston, Philidelphia etc., that's kind of the long way to go if you don't know where he came in. I can check next time I am up at my Family history center and see what we have. I have a friend that volunteers at NARA and ask if she nows where you might look I live in the San Francisco Bay area so most of my resources are for California. Have you heard of P.O.I.N.T.(Persuing Our Italian Names Together? or the PIE list? If not, I will check my directory for your surname. Joni Josaun@webtv.net http://www.picks.tv/texandy/charter.html

2. So, I am on the Internet. I am researching family history for my selected surnames. I go to Google, perform a search using the surname in question, and all I come up with are inquiries I made on Rootsweb lists. Isn't this a little counter-productive? vas575

    3. No, it is not counter productive. It shows that information pertaining to your surnames is not on the internet. Genealogy cannot be researched via the internet with Google or any other search engine. One must obtain vital records, tax records, land and probate records and census records, most of which are NOT on the internet, especially for a foreign country. The internet is a starting point for sharing information and making contacts. Good luck. --- Vas575@aol.com wrote: > So, I am on the Internet. 1. my 1880 US census look ups
    2. Hi all, I'm so sorry if I haven't answered you're look up request yet, the requests are numerous. Plus, life has been a little hectic to say the least, and, we're leaving on a vacation for a few days. We'll be back by the weekend. then I have to work, so it may be even longer before I can get back to you. I promise to do my very best to find the person/s that you're looking for. I have done that for everyone so far, and that is also why it has taken me quite some time to get to everyone. Many people did not have much info for me to go by or had a few states and or names for me to look into and I've had to dig deep to find those that some were looking for. I hope to get back to you with your info very soon. Please do not respond to this email!! I am not excepting any new requests till after next Monday. I need a chance to catch up with what I have to this point and that may take a while. Thank you for understanding, Ella

    1. More 1880 US census look ups? Read Carefully!!
    2. Hi all, Anymore FREE look ups anyone? If I didn't answer your request then you were accidently deleted in the shuffle. Just resend it. If you don't have all the info, send me what you do have and I'll see what I can do. If it's too much then I'll let you know. Please read carefully... 1. Everyone alive, in the US by June 1st, 1880 is indexed. 2. You do not need an exact year of birth, the search allows for a 5 year difference either way. The year of birth could be different with each census. It is hardly ever accurate! The closer the better. 3. You do not have to tell me this but sometimes it lowers the hits if you don't have much info. What is the race? Black, White, Mulatto, Native American or Mexican? 4. Oklahoma Territory is not in the census. 5. Again...unless it's uncommon, I need a first and last name. 6. If you don't have much info then you can try giving me the names of a spouse and/or children that I might find on the 1880 census living with the person you're looking for. What you'll receive from me... 1. The name of the head of household and everyone living in it. 2. The relationship of everyone to the head of household. If the relationship is listed as other, then they are not related. 3. The age, race and sex of everyone. 4. The occupation of everyone. 5. The birth place of everyone and their parents. 6. Microfilm info. There is no limit on how many look ups you can request, I only ask that you limit it to 2 surnames per email. My website is coming back to life slowly but surely. You can check it out now or you can try agin in a day or 2 if it doesn't work. http://members.aol.com/ella12866/index.html Take care, Ella

    1. Google & Rootsweb.
    2. I agree that Rootsweb is probably the larger culprit here. When I signed on to my first Rootsweb list (I am probably a member of 5 or 6 - though only 4 are active lists) I remember being informed that my posts would be available through Rootsweb archives. I realize that I may be splitting hairs here but I believe that someone who takes the time to look in a Rootsweb archive is going to have to exercise some patience and dig through year by year, list by list. Conversely, a Google search is like retrieving the Thanksgiving Turkey, The Stuffing and the Platter all at once! vas575
