Yes, there are lots of Carbone in Genua. As his marriage certificate let us know he was born after 1860, you should try and contact Genua's Comune and ask them for a historical search of your ancestor in their registers. There are two kind of registers. The Anagrafe ones where you can find information about where a family was living, the head of the house and all the people living with him at a certain time, and the Stato Civile, where you can find registrations for births, marriages, deaths and so on. I guess you should try and search for your ancestor's birth act. Alas, Carbone is a very common surname in Genua, so look out for people sharing the same name of your ancestor. Even as we talk, there are five Carlo Carbone on Genua's phone directory. About the Extracerra surname, I don't think she was Italian. The surname probably got distorted when she migrated. That's just my opinion, though. Catalina in Italy is Caterina or (once) Catarina. Anyways, if you can find his birth act, you'll find the answer to all of your questions ;) Here is the homepage of Comune di Genova: http://www.comune.genova.it/welcome.htm Hope it helps, Ciao, Fabio

    3. Hi Dave, Just wanted to let you know about some similarities I have noted. . My father was Antonio DiSanza, he was born in NYC on 11/4/1899. His parents returned to Italy with his sister Rosa, Also on the way back was his maternal grandparents, an aunt and uncle.(about 1905) His maternal grandfather was Giovanni Novello/Novelli, who was from Calabria, province of Cosenza, comune Besito. This made my grandfather 25% Calabrese. His grandparents lived in Craco, Basilicata. He would see him often , until his grand father returned to NYC with his son Francesco. (about 1914). My father came to the US as a an American citizen...........................on JULY 4th, 1922, on the COLOMBO out Naples. Same ship, same voyage. When he got to the USA he stayed with his grandfather uncle for a while. But more important he had friends who he met on the ship coming over. What I remember growing up, was that we had many friends who were Calabrese. We used to go to Westchester County to visit, (Yonkers, maybe) I don't remember any of his friends last names, but I would not be surprised if they each other. I wish I could help you more "David Morabito" <davidmorabito@yahoo.com> wrote in message news:5fd1181a.0208161856.6bdad2c7@posting.google.com... > Looking for relatives of Ferdinando Morabito of Cittanova, > Calabria. 1. Carbone from Genova - and a few questions
    2. Carlos Carbone
    3. Hi. I am trying to find more information on an ancestor. His name was Carlo Carbone (translated later to spanish - Carlos Carbone - in Panama were I was born). According to his marrigae certificate from a local church - november 27, 1889, he was from Genova, Italia and was 28 years old at that time. His parents where (spanish translated again in the certificate) Juan Bautista Carbone and Catalina Extracerra. My guess would be that his father was Giambattista or Giovanni Battista, anyway I dont know what name was of common usage a that time. In the case of his mother Catalina, I would like to know if Catalina is Italian as well or should it have been Caterina. Her surname makes me wonder. It does not sound italian, I even checked the web and labos.net and no result is returned when I type Extracerra. How hard could it be to find more information about him? Does anybody know the reason(s) for italians to leave behind their relatives and their lives back to head to america? Makes me wonder, why Panama. At that time we were part of whta used to be The Great Colombia. We became a country in 1903. Any help will be deeply appreciated.

Hi Maria, Have you tried asking the San Biagio Saracinisco ? They should have information for your ancestors. They sure have it for Biagio Jaconelli (but the actual spelling is Iaconelli, you should check for this surname). You should also check at the nearest Family History Center for San Biagio Saracinisco's microfilms. They have documents from 1811 to 1865, so you'll probably be able to find information on Biagio's parents and probably earlier ancestors, too. Also, the State Archive (Archivio di Stato) in Caserta has the original documents which were used to create the Family History Center films. I found two emails for the State Archive: asce@archivi.beniculturali.it and 027@rpv.beniculturali.it You should write and ask them more information about those names, they can probably help you, too. It'd be better if you write in Italian. If you need any help with it, I'll translate your request in Italian, just let me know :) Remember to be very specific, doing so you hinghen your probability of them finding what you're loking for ;) Here's what's in the registers: Title Registri dello stato civile, 1811-1865 Authors San Biagio Saracinisco (Frosinone). 3. Hi, Maria, Here are some possible leads for you: From www.ancestry.com: 1920 United States Federal Census: 9 New Street, St. Johnsville, Montgomery County, New York, 12 January 1920 Malancio(?), Bro-----? Head, Age 46 , Madaline Wife, Age 32 Iaconelli, Antonio Father-in-Law, Age 67 Antoinetta Mother-in-Law, Age 56 All are listed as Italian, place of birth, Italy. Some of the writing is hard to read but it looks like the Head came to the U.S. in 1908, his wife, Madaline, came to the U.S. in 1910, and Antonio and Antoinetta came to the U.S. in 1914. Couldn't find any mention of Biago in the right time frame. You may want to try the Ellis Island web site for more information. Also from www.ancestry.com Message Boards: John (Jhncas@aol.com) posted on 17 April 2000 that his great-great grandmother was Anna Domenica Tartaglia from Santa Croce di Magliano, Molise, Italy. Teresa Tartaglia (DECEPEDA@aol.com) posted on 8 October 2000 that she was looking for information on the Tartaglia family from Colliano, Salerno, Naples, Italy. Hope at least one of these helps you!
