For everybody: http://gens.labo.net/it/cognomi/ Here you con find every single surname on the map of italy and U.S. Great!!
Let's see: SMALDONE These are the Smaldone's who are on the Italian phonebook in Potenza, Italy: <http://elenco.libero.it/elencotel/public/RisultatoComuni.jsp?nome=&cognome=smaldone&provincia=PZ&prov=POTENZA> RIVIEZZO I found her marrying a Fiorentino Pocino in 1899, 21 Jan, in Manhattan, New York. Her mother's surname wasn't Rocana, which is very rare (only 1 in the phonebook and not in the Potenza area, but in northern Italy). The correct surname was Racana, well documented in Potenza. There are 22 churches in Potenza, here: <http://www.parrocchie.it/gear/qlist.html?cercointabella=parrocchie&nome=&citta=potenza&cognome=&id_nome=&id_cognome=> POCINO (right surname, puccino is too rare) here are the people in the phone book. The surname is from Campania region: <http://elenco.libero.it/elencotel/public/RicercaPerProvince.jsp?nome=®ione=campania&cognome=pocino> On Fri, 21 May 2004 21:25:00 +0000 (UTC), [email protected] wrote: > >Looking for ancestors of my great grandparents Vincenzo SMALDONE and Gerarda >RIVIEZZI/O. > >Gerarda/Julia (Riviezzi) SMALDONE came from Potenza Potenza Italy. Hi Charles, Are you sure Salvatore (correct name) was born in the province of Cuneo ? If so, you can try and contact the Cuneo's still living in that province. It's less than 10 people: <http://elenco.libero.it/elencotel/public/RisultatoComuni.jsp?nome=&cognome=cuneo&provincia=CN&prov=CUNEO> I've found Salvatore mentioned in the 1880 US Census, here: <http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/census/individual_record.asp?INDI_CODE=1880US%5F9992152%5F0&lds=5®ion=0®ionfriendly=&juris1=&juris2=&juris3=&juris4=®ionfriendly=&juris1friendly=&juris2friendly=&juris3friendly=&juris4friendly=> He's named Salvadore (wrong spelling, correct one is Salvatore), he was born in 1846 (not 1864) and is 34 years old. His occupation is clerk, he's married and he's living in 1st Ward, Precinct 9, Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He's living in there with his wife Annie C. Cuneo, 18 years old, housekeeper, being born in PA, in 1862, and their daughter Rosa, 1 year old, who was born in Italy. Are you sure he was from the Cuneo Province ? I ask this as 50% of Italian Cuneo's are from the Genua province. Hope it helps, Fabio On Sun, 23 May 2004 18:30:14 -0400, "Charles P Cuneo" <[email protected]> wrote: >I am trying to get Info on a Salvatore (Salvadore) Cuneo.....He was born in 1864 somewhere in the providence of Cuneo...Sailed to the US (date Unknown) and settled in PA or NJ... > > He was single when he arrived..I Believe... got married in 187? and had either 8 - 10 Kids..... > > We believe he would be my 5th Generation Grandfather... > > Any help on Date and places would be greatly appreciated.

Stefano Boscolo

Looking for ancestors of my great grandparents Vincenzo SMALDONE and Gerarda RIVIEZZI/O. Gerarda/Julia (Riviezzi) SMALDONE came from Potenza Potenza Italy. Oops, almost forgot it. Here you can find the archives of a Mailing List dedicated to genealogy of people from Valledolmo: <http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/VALLEDOLMO/> The Archives are searchable: <http://listsearches.rootsweb.com/?list=VALLEDOLMO> Bye, Fabio
I would like some help on finding out familey background on my grandmothe Consolata Pelosi of Frigento Italy. She came to the U.S.A. in 1910 after my grandfather died in FREGINTO .Her married name was Ciullo. thank you
Well, I think I can help you, Susan ;) First of all, the correct Italian name for Louis is Luigi ;) ----- Secondly, I've probably also found reference to your Rosalia Scalia, here: <http://www.ellisislandrecords.org/search/passRecord.asp?pID=102887090224>. She arrived in US in July 25, 1896, on the ship Olympia, sailing from Naples. She was 17. She declared to come to US as a labourer and she was directed to Buffalo. She came with her younger brother Calogero, who was 15 and they had two baggages. Rosalia was in the aft, while Calogero in the forward. ----- Thirdly, if you go there: <http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp> and enter Pulvino in the Last Name field, you'll be amazed how many entries you'll find, most of them from Villadolmo. ----- I've found 3 Vincenza Battaglia's from Valledolmo: <http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/PRF/individual_record.asp?recid=520148732&lds=2®ion=-1®ionfriendly=&frompage=99> <http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/PRF/individual_record.asp?recid=520150925&lds=2®ion=-1®ionfriendly=&frompage=99> <http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/PRF/individual_record.asp?recid=520151298&lds=2®ion=-1®ionfriendly=&frompage=99> many of these references come from: Elaine BOWDEN 5021 36th Ave E Tacoma WA 98443 which I suggest you to contact. She'll probably be able to help you ;) ----- Also, the nearest Family History Center (see on http://www.familysearch.org) has the following data's on microfilms you can view: 1. Civil Registers (Births, deaths, marriages, marriage banns, records of citizenship, and documents attached to records from the civil registration office in Valledolmo (Palermo). Some registries include an index) from 1820 to 1910 2. Census (1752 to 1815), containing Disclosures (census) of families and properties, supplementary documents. 3. Valledolmo to Fredonia: a book about emigration from Valledolmo to Fredonia. Could be interesting to read ;) ----- The State Archive of Palermo has Civil Registers for Valledolmo from 1820 to 1865. It's part of the same acts you can find at Family History Centers but you may also write them, and ask them for information about the people you're looking for who could have been born, died or married in that timespan. You can write to MR. Claudio Torrisi, at <[email protected]> They also have Military registers for people born from 1841 to 1921. You can ask them to look for your male ancestors in there, too :) ----- Here's the web site for the Commune of Valledolmo: <http://www.comune.valledolmo.pa.it/home.asp> You may try and contact them too, they sure have lots of information in their archjves: Comune di Valledolmo Via Chiavetta, 1 - 90029 (Pa) Tel. 0921.544311 Fax 0921.544116 E-mail : [email protected] Hope it helps, let us know.
