Un improvvisato mercatino su www.carusa.it/mercatino da vedere. Ciao
Thanks Mike, I always key in on your postings. They are always interesting and insightful. In my Walter Mitty moments I live in Italy also, the land of our roots, but I know your way is much more enjoyable
I got my father's military records through the Italian Consulate, but it took a long while. Joe
I agree with those others who said the births are reported within two day. I have been through hundreds of records at the LDSFHC, Itri, Italy records and the births were reported the same day or the next day 99% of the times. You might had a wrong date; search the microfilm frame by frame. Joe

There are no Molaro listings in Grion nor San Lorenzo, but 23 Molaro listings in Sedegliano. There are no Chiesa listings in Grion nor San Lorenzo, but 4 in Sedegliano. I got a new tid-bit about my great grandfather coming to America via New York and settling in New Orleans. I was in Salt Lake City and ran across a piece of information in a research company's database that said: Antonio Betta arrived in New York on board the "SS Belgenland" on April 22, 1886. I can't find a manifest online to back this up. Does anyone have this manifest? If so, can you search it for me and let me know exactly what it says. My research shows that his name was Antonino DiBetta and he posibly arrived in New York about the age of 14. I appreciate any help that anyone can give me. Thanks, Wayne

Toni: Check our your local Morman Library (Family History Center). The folks are very friendly and no need to be a Mormon to use their facilities. See the attached link. Your records should be on the microfilms listed - and only 14 films to go through for all Orsara Records. Contact me if you need additional help. http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/fhlcatalog/supermainframeset.asp?display=titledetails&titleno=7269&disp=Registri+dello+stato+civile%20%20&columns=*,0,0 Regards, Tom Searching in Gravina in Puglia and Altamura "Toni Picariello" <[email protected]> wrote in message news:[email protected] > > Hi everyone - I am at a dead-end looking for vital stats (birth > certificate, death cert, Marriage cert, who were his parents?, etc). on my > great-grandfather. I am traveling to northeastern Italy in September and plan to visit two villages where some of my ancestors came from. The villages are Grions and San Lorenzo. Grions is about five kilometres north of Sedegliano, and *this* San Lorenzo is about five kilometres southeast of Sedegliano. Sedegliano is north of Codroipo in Udine. The family from Grions is "Molaro" and the family from San Lorenzo is "Chiesa". Where should I visit? Churches and Cemeteries. I've never attempted genealogical research in Italy before, and I'm not even familiar with the basics. Do I need to do some advance groundwork before I go? Any advice? David Wyatt http://home.cc.umanitoba.ca/~wyatt/
Hello, This is my first post; I've been lurking for a while, and am glad to see this group - unlike some other genealogy newsgroups and lists - is quite active. Okay, on my great-grandmother, Anna's, death certificate, her son (my great uncle) listed Anna's father's name as "Edisto". I "Googled" "Edisto" to see just how common a first name it is in Palermo, where Anna was born. Here's what I found out: 1. The Edisto River is the longest blackwater river in the world. 2. There is an Edisto Beach in South Carolina. 3. There is/was an aircraft carrier with the name "USS Edisto". None of these facts pertain to genealogy, I know. Just out of curiosity: anyone out there know, or know of, any Edisto's from Palermo, Sicily? Thanks, Jim

If you have any updates please add to this thread.. "This list is specifically composed of websites or email addresses that represent the transcription of hundreds or thousands of records; birth records, marriage records, death and baptisms. Most of these researchers concentrate on only one town, but there are some here that have done more. Most people transcribe this information from LDS microfilms in dark little rooms, but a few have had access to the actual records in their chosen towns. One woman just photographed the records and put scans on line, which is great, because it will help everyone appreciate just what these researchers have had to look at."
