Are there any Italians with the last > name Piante, particularly in Genoa? A look at the distribution of Italian names in Italy at http://www.gens.labo.net/ shows no Piante surnames. Piante means plants in Italian, so there are many commercial listings with this name, having to do with agriculture, I imagine. Italy phone directory on the Net at http://www.infobel.com/italy show no Piante people listings. There are some 59 Del Pianto listings. Good luck on your search. Joe in Texas

Hello everyone, I am new to this list and hope someone can help. My great grandmother was born Katrine Augustino ORTELLO about 1845 (in her eightieth year at death 21 Apr 1925). She claimed that she was born of the Italian aristocracy, but I have no proof of this. All of my information comes strictly from family stories. Katrine was born on a ship on the Irish sea (presumably travelling from Italy to Ireland) and her mother died in childbirth. On the 1881 Canadian census, she says she was born in Ireland and her ancestry is Italian. I believe her father remarried in Ireland, then died. Her stepmother remarried, moved to Canada with new husband and they raised Katrine as their own. I guess what I need to know is: is there any way to find Katrine's father and mother's immigration from Italy to Ireland? And as a result, find their names. I am obviously hampered in Italian research without a word of Italian. Any suggestions will be welcomed. Regards, Janet Bush (Ontario, Canada)

Domenico Serlupi Crescenzi Ottoboni
From The Cork Examiner, 5 November 1864 - A letter from Tusa, in Sicily, mentions a melancholy accident which has just occurred in the theatre of that town. A part of a teir of boxes fell into the pit during the performance, carrying with them the persons by whom they were occupied. Two men were killed, and several received serious injuries. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Dennis Ahern | Ireland Newspaper Abstracts Acton, Massachusetts | http://www.IrelandOldNews.com - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Please I look for news of Vincenzo Lombardi for my genealogical tree. He was born to Avellino in Italy 17/10/1889. Emigrated in America 1906 (departed from Naples 11/11/1906 and arrival to New York 26/11/106). I believe to have found him in us federal census 1930 in New York on ancestry.com, but unfortunately I don't have the credit card to undersign the 14 days trial. Can someone help me? My address e-mail is [email protected]
Ciao Tutti, I have been trying for weeks to get a clear answer from either Ellis Island Foundation or LDS regarding posibilities making compilations of from data found on www.ellisisland.org. I am a administrator of a web community for genealogists doing research in the Lucca province. What we want to do is make compilations for each comune or village. We want to do this because the database at Ellis Island has so many typos and flaws. Any other web comunities done any similar and want to share their knowledge on this?
