But can we expect more from a generation raised on the the Taco Bell chihuahua and cliche'd "Latino" stereo-types as references for ethnic authenticity? A situation made only worse by "spokesclowns" of the "Latino Race" from Manhattan,NY to Miami,FL to Montebello,CA. Enough already with this FICTION!!! The reality is, regardless of how many "diversity" or "latino" unity conferences continue to promote the political fallacy of the latino "race"....LATINO IS NOT A RACE!!! It does NOT exist!!! It NEVER has!!! It only exists in the rhetorical smokescreen of political whores (of all "backgrounds") who see a very fertile ground for exploiting a growing "group" of ARBITRARILY and ARTIFICALLY AFFILIATED PEOPLES who are MORE different than alike on MANY very REAL levels. ALL that any Spanish-Speaking person (OR PERSON COMING FROM A SPANISH-SPEAKING CULTURE) shares with another person from a Spanish-language culture is LANGUAGE!!! It is that simple. Common language facility DOES NOT change ANYONE's genealogy nor does it change their molecular structure, NOR does it assign ANYONE a race, an ethnicity (WITHIN ANY RACIAL GROUP), nor does it identify them along any other "culturally" designated lines. How clear can this be??? Let me "flesh" this out so even a MORON can understand it!!! The President of Peru is JAPANESE. He is NOT an Inca. He is NOT an Aztec. He is not the descendant of Mandingo slaves.!!! The Governor of Puerto Rico is of European background. He is NOT a Taino. He is not a descendant of Eskimos or extraterrestrial beings!!! The HUGE majority of Argentinians are of European background; Italian at that. They are NOT Amazonian indians. They are NOT Koreans either. ALL THAT THESE DIFFERENT "HISPANICS" SHARE IS LANGUAGE!!!! If these examples are too lofty for the "average" "American" organism to comprehend, let's try this. The Queen of England speaks English. Imagine that!!! Mike Tyson speaks English (or something resembling it). Maori Aborigines in Australia speak Crocodile Dundee"English". East Indians in KENYA speak English. Question: Does this language "commonality" make the Queen, Mike, the Maori Aboriginal people and the East Indians, brothers and sisters??? Really now, is this reality too "deep" for the average "American" to wrap their intellect around? I really hope not.
