The location is Mt. Hood in Oregon, and several of the climbers were killed. One group of climbers slipped and came down upon 2 other groups causing all 3 groups to fall into a crevasse. The helicopter is Air Force reserve and only one person was badly injured but is expected to recover. Mountain climbing is a very big business here in the Pacific Northwest and probably always will be. Being up on the mountain is a wonderful experience and the view is unmatched! Just another soggy Seattle Sysop. -----Original Message----- From: Brian [mailto:brian@lordbramhall.co.uk] Sent: Friday, May 31, 2002 12:33 AM To: GEN-FRIENDS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [GEN-FRIENDS] Climbers & walkers It just came on the news here in UK that a rescue helicopter crashed in snowy mountains trying to rescue climbers somewhere in the US. Oregan I think. The rescue was being filmed and they showed the helicopter breaking up as it rolled down the mountainside. These damn climbers, walkers and mountaineers are a pain throughout the world. I wish they'd learn not to rely on others for rescue and make people risk their lives. Very selfish.
