Oh! how I remember those days!!...Our schools..for the age group you are talking about..close at the very end of June..and return on the first Tuesday in September...which is much shorter than the time you speak about... Angela...may I ask what how high the temperature goes there..and is it very high the whole summer?? I can certainly feel for you Angela..when it is too hot for them to go outside and play!! Is there any swimming for them nearby?? We had a huge city owned public pool about 5 minutes away from the house in a lovely park..and free! to boot... 3. Hi frances, the temperature is starting to climb already but no humidity YET ! that's the killer as there's no respite at night either. They always measure the temp in the shade, which I think is stupid the hottest they claim is about 45 deg.C but I know it has been 50 Deg in August. For approx 3 months is will always be over 40 deg. It wouldn't be so bad if it only lasted for 6 weeks or so, that I could bear. Mike will have it far worse, but in Saudi most houses have air conditioning. My husband refuses to put it saying it's bad for our health. The heat I know is bad for my health. 3. Quite right Angela. The humidity finally hit here (Jeddah) yesterday. This is the time to leave. From now on each day and even nights will be uncomfortable - no one on beaches(private) or cornice, just too sticky to bear it. One feels it in the apartment also, even though air conditioners are used 365 days a year now they are really needed. Open the door and the humidity hits you, and it never rains but maybe one day a year. Until recently it has been remarkably pleasant like a good English summer (well no like an exceptional English summer). It's 40 plus from now on and I agree these shade temperatures do not reflect the true heat. I lived once in Multan Southern Punjab which is described by all and sundry as a hell hole (Temps in excess of 50) but actually it was SO different I liked it and it was dry desert heat, not this humid horror. Still one adapts. I have fond memories of harsh winters in west Durham.
