    3. You're right Marj, in a way. All of our schools are air conditioned but I just think having the long holiday is a throw back from the 'olden days.' Back then parents needed their children to help with the planting and harvesting of crops during the summer months. The long summer holiday has nothing to do with teacher's tenure. Our kids also get the Monday after our Thanksgiving holiday off because it's the first day of deer season hunting. I imagine that's for a similar reason, families needed enough meat to last for the winter season.
