Hi Sue Yes, it is a long drive to La Rochelle, whichever ferry you take. One year we were meant to sail to St Malo, and we took the whole day to drive down, stopping off for lunch and tea with Don's brother in Windsor. We arrived at the ferry port just in time to see our ship set sail - we had misunderstood the 24 hour clock. Don't ask me how - we have always known it. Thought we had to be there for a 10 pm sailing, and it was an 8 pm sailing (20.00 hours) They put us on the next sailing to Caen, at midnight, which was a shorter route to La Rochelle. We have done the same route again since then, but it is a long way, especially with children. Whenever we arrive at La Rochelle, it seems as though the skies clear and the sun comes out, even though it has been raining all the way en route. It is a MAGICAL place for me.
