    3. Sue I applaud you. You must be a rare breed of social worker to agree there is a need to tighten the screw on prison conditions. Do you also agree that competition in schools is essential and children will not be disillusioned by not being the absolute best in the class. 3. Prison reform is a hundred years past due. I'm kind of "an eye for an eye" type of person although I'm mostly opposed to the death penalty. Mainly because death is too easy a punishment...let the sob's suffer their fates at the hands of their own. Now, about competition in schools. There's two school's of thought (no pun intended) on this and the wisest choice would be somewhere in-between the two of them. Personally, I don't like the forced competition on the younger children. It makes them want to learn for all of the wrong reasons. Competition needs to come from within, not from peers, as this is detrimental to social relationships. If unreasonably high expectations are placed on children, this will set them up for failure. On the other hand there's the self fulfilling prophecy, if a child isn't expected to do well, they won't. 3. At least, in the case of the death penalty they don't come back to do it again or sit there waiting for some do-gooder to get them released on a technicality.
