Marged! Enjoyed reading your note about La Rochelle..and I could just see you 'settling down there' as I know how very much you have enjoyed ALL your visits to France over the years. You are right about the King sending the young girls over to 'New France'...Quebec/Canada...in order to quickly increase the population so that 'further income' from this 'new land' would eventually go back to France.
