Yes, Brian, in many ways you are right, but this is a society, both here and particularly in the USA, where people sue at the drop of a hat. If the road kill or hunted meat was not quite fresh and didn't go through food hygiene checks, it could cause illness or death and then the authorities would be sued. One of the things I thought was sad was after the Eggwina disaster (don't start) the old folk couldn't have a lightly poached or boiled egg in the Day Centre I worked at, as all eggs had to be thoroughly cooked. And as regards "A short life but a gay on" (we used to be able to say that and mean it) I have discovered from experience of parents that people tend to cling to life, even when they are very old and very ill. For "Life is real, and life is earnest, and the grave is not the goal". Marj > Isn't this a cop out. My gran wanted to die 2 or 3 years before she actually did and in my opinion she got her wish as I believe that she eventually starved herself to death. At 95 she was incontinent and so had no dignity and every time I visited she told me that you wouldn't be allowed keep an animal in that state. She ate very little and the home didn't feed her. They said they didn't have time and she was able to feed herself and they used to use the old cop-out that by making her feed herself she was keeping her dignity!!!!! Bull!!!!!!! She was registered blind and deaf and when I got there and saw the food spilt down the front of her I knew how embarrassed she was. She used to be a very outgoing person but finished up locked in a world of her own. Was that living?? One other thought. We are told that this life is but a passage to what lies beyond the grave. When you are sick, tired and have no real purpose left in life perhaps the thought of meeting your maker is quite a pleasant one. That, plus meeting the multitude who have gone before. She used to say how much she was looking forward to meeting my granddad and her parents again. Roz _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
