When my sister emigrated from Ontario to Alberta, she found herself much better off financially because they only had one lot of tax in Alberta, and two in Ontario. Mind you, the salaries were lower, too. If I am not mistaken, we pay 17.5% tax on most stuff, but not food, except for luxury foods as you describe. Marj > In the US its the same Marg. Pennsylvania has a 6% sales tax, except for one county that I know of (Allegheny) which is 7%. Food isn't taxed except for prepared/take out food. No Marj, I believe we pay purchase tax or something like on some things, but 17.5% VAT on most things. Sorry to be vague but it is late a night :-)) This country is good for indirect taxation so we don't know how much tax we actually pay.
