    3. Never saw that option on a TV here. What is the purpose though, between shutting it off or putting it on standby? 3. Shutting it off means just that, switching off at the plug and removing the plug. Many people think it dangerous to leave an appliance plugged in when not using it. Standby means there is still power going to it which is what it is designed for otherwise why have the facility in the first place? And, of course, the "experts" say this is dangerous. Everyone to their own opinion. I'm off to bed. 3. Invented by a man Sue ! You have to get off your posterior to switch off the T.V. To put it on standby, you use the remote control. 3. I've never known a man to be allowed to touch the remote when there's a woman in the house! 3. Standby on a tv here is, I think, when you switch the tv off at the set, but not at the wall plug. This means a red pilot light stays lit on the tv set. Fires can break out this way. The fire bobby told me when he checked our house out recently. He also told me he head never heard of a fire in a computer, but if I ever noticed the noise from the tower stop, it meant that the fan had gone off and I should get it looked at! 3. I wonder why things are so different, here and there. The only time this *might* be an issue is during a lightening storm but we have surge protectors on things like the TV and PC to protect them. Even when we are away on vacation/holiday we don't unplug anything.
