We Brits don't appreciate the vastness of North America and on our little island we also don't appreciate the convenience of our National Health service, bad as most people say it is. By British standards the pennines are fairly remote but we have every medical discipline you can name within 20 miles. The problems to be mostly in the home counties but that must be balanced against the advantages of living near London. Perhaps everyone should move north on retirement or perhaps not. Having been to England, via rail from Dover to London and from Belgium to Dover by ship... I know the size differences... it was a nice trip from Dover to London on the train... don't remember exactly how long it took but not long. Flying from Seattle to New York is a 4-hour flight... Train is 5 days... There are places in the west where the nearest hospital big enough to do major surgery is well over 200 miles away... Heck, driving across Montana is a day all by itself... One state... Just another soggy Seattle Sysop. -----Original Message----- From: Jim SHARPE [mailto:sharpe@britishlibrary.net] Sent: Sunday, January 20, 2002 3:42 AM To: GEN-FRIENDS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [Gen-Friends] Vicky's terrible fall!! Sorry to disagree Jim, but I wrote a 6 page complaint to Alan Milburn (mister for Health) regarding the filthy Nottingham City Hospital - it is disgraceful Bubbles from Robin Hood Country. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jim SHARPE" <sharpe@britishlibrary.net> To: <GEN-FRIENDS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, January 20, 2002 11:41 AM Subject: Re: [Gen-Friends] Vicky's terrible fall!! : We Brits don't appreciate the vastness of North America and on our little : island we also don't appreciate the convenience of our National Health : service, bad as most people say it is.
