With my big puter I switch everything off if I am leaving it for more than an hour otherwise I set the puter to standby and turn off the monitor. The printer and scanner are only turned on when they are used and switched straight off again. My big computer has a fan that runs constantly and I cant see the point of wasting electricity, both for the sake of my bank balance and the environment. The time taken to switch on again is minimal. I would certainly never leave the house , or go to bed, and leave the computer running. Also I never leave tv's on standby either, in fact my new tv came with the instructions that it must NOT be left on standby for long periods.
