The first two firms I called wanted a call-out fee but I told them where to go for their call-out fee. I explained I had done most of the work and all they had to do was screw the box to the wall and connect the wires so a fee of £30 was agreed. That was before I knew about the staple in the wire. If there WAS a staple in the wire! My father in law told a tale about how he took a radio into a shop for repair. The repair man replaced some small part and charged father half a crown. Father pointed out that the small part would only have cost sixpence. The man replied "yes, sixpence for the part, half a crown for knowing what to do with it"!
