Tatties we had, not sure what neeps are. We also had a salmon cooked whole with a lovely sauce, lots of red wine followed by honey cake for the birthday boy. The birthday boy is my husband's first summer student . He turned 50. The birthday cake was a little disappointing. On Steve's 40th birthday the 10 or so sparklers intended for the cake caught fire a little early. The person holding them dropped them on the newly finished floor forcing everyone to jump out of the way to avoid burns. The mark is still there. This time the sparklers went on the cake first and sparkled away safely. Neeps is mashed turnip. I laughed at the story of the cake and candles, but quite honestly, I would BAN fireworks.
