When you book rail travel in UK nowadays, you MUST be prepared to wrangle and make sure you get the cheapest fare. This can sometimes mean booking a long time in advance. One of my friends regularly goes to London from Liverpool, and has done it for about £12 with Virgin. You can fly from Liverpool to London Luton for a very small amount with EasyJet Marj --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Hi Brian, As far as I know Manganese batteries are not rechargeable. The rechargeable batteries are Nickel/Cadmium (Nicads) but the most recent batteries are Metal Hydride. These give full power for a longer time and do not suffer from "memory". I am told that they can be recharged before fully discharged and still retain full power. My son flew from Stansted to Edinburgh for £25 which works out cheaper cos he lives near Stansted. I was told that it was £75 return by train....nice to see it's cheaper. Last time I went to Scotland...circa 1959....we went up via the old Starlight Express into Glasgow which was not a sleeper but was cheap.
