Hello Angela, You call it the freedom of the media I call it intrusion. To me, the media are scum, following the American way of badgering rather than true reporting. They make a story happen if one doesn't exist. The Royal family should have stood their ground and forbidden the media to intrude instead of becoming more "user friendly". Now they pay the price. And have done dsince Di was done away with. > I personally prefer it that way as from babies we were brought up to think > of Kings, Queens, Princesses and Princes as like fairy tale characters and > it was fantastic if you caught a glimpse or better still shook hands with a > member. > Now everything they do is muddied. I NEVER knew The Geek was father to Edward. That explains a lot! Trouble is, Edward Wessex hasn't got a brain big enough to allow him to remember his name. But then, there is always one throwback in every "Royal" family. And no-one EVER knows who the parents are! BTW, that is NOT a spelling mistook. If you were asking permission, Vicky, you didn't wait for an answer, you just ASSUMED as so many people do nowadays. Not that I'm bothered except it is good manners. And if you weren't going to wait for an answer, then why ask? When you think about it, they're not much different. Most of the "working class" kids never see their parents! They're too busy in the pubs. France? Never looked back! Troubles yes, but not because the people are starving whilst only the King is allowed to hunt! I don't think it was a good idea for Diana OR Charles to go public the way they did, and the Queen doesn't need to do it. Diana was only 21 or 22 when she married Charles, with no experience. She didn't know her husband had a long-term mistress that he was not going to give up. The media had more respect for privacy in those days - all America knew about the Prince of Wales and Wallis, but it was blacked out by our press - I know this from my own father who was at sea in those days, and was amazed they didn't know at home.
