Having a degree in psychology, I agree with the study. It's been long known that expressing feelings, specifically "bad" feelings has a positive effect on the individual... Acting out doesn't seem to work as well but those were different studies done at different times and may not correlate well... Marj, never give up posting! :> Just another soggy Seattle Sysop. -----Original Message----- From: Marged [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, April 22, 2002 11:08 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [GEN-FRIENDS] from today's Telegraph Well, Jim, it's nice to have your considered opinion. As a matter of fact, I do concur with the message absolutely, having had the experience of making a lot of friends on the internet at a time when big changes in my life might have made me very lonely, and possibly even crack up. I do have a life outside e-mailing, but it certainly means a lot to me. Perhaps we might hear from others on the message, and also on whether it is worth my while going on sending ANYTHING to THIS List? Marj > I'm tempted to interject "Balderdash". April 22, 2002 *Who Gets The Dog?* A clergyman was walking down the street when he came upon a group of about a dozen boys, all of them between 10 and 12 years of age. The group surrounded a dog. Concerned the boys were hurting the dog, he went over and asked, "What are you doing with that dog?" One of the boys replied, "This dog is just an old neighborhood stray. We all want him, but only one of us can take him home. So we've decided that whichever one of us can tell the biggest lie will get to keep the dog." The reverend was taken aback. "You boys shouldn't be having a contest telling lies!" he exclaimed. He then launched into a 10-minute sermon against lying, beginning, "Don't you boys know it's a sin to lie?" and ending with, "Why, when I was your age, I never told a lie." There was dead silence for about a minute. Just as the reverend was beginning to think he'd gotten through to them, the smallest boy gave a deep sigh and said, "All right, give him the dog." --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. And another thing ................ The main purpose of sending on articles such as the one that has caused a flutter in the dovecot is not just to prove the point that the writer of the article is making, or otherwise as the case may be BUT - to engender discussion in the manner Pam and Frances have just demonstrated. In future when I send anything in, I am going to give it a heading saying "Discuss - do not shoot down in flames"! Marj > > > I agree, Jim. Marged!..I agree l00% with this writing. Yes, it absolutely does help when one is perhaps in a time of crisis..whether it be sickness..or..a change in one's life that has become somewhat difficult to cope with at the time of it happening ...I also have read and do understand that this works very well especially for women..more so than men..as they do tend to internalize these any unhappy event/crisis/change...due to a line of thinking..."I can handle..work this out...myself" ..which in my opinion is an "extension" to the admonitions as a young child..'little boys don't cry' .... We 'can cry' if we are emotionally hurt ..and for valid reasons for a temporary state of depression...why not?? We were ..All..blessed with 'tear ducts'...and all the same emotions ...be we female or male...it makes no difference...Yes, some it helps by 'writing down their feelings'... others..to speak with someone personally either in person,,or, by phone...but, speak about your feelings is always the best way of returning back to the avenue of good health..both mentally and physically!! This is my humble opinion...and yes, Marged, I agree with you that I too have had times when this was the only way to 'get on with life'... Best wishes to all ~!
