Spending it all is a good idea if you think it would create problems, but we brought our kids up to be self reliant as you would no doubt expect from my expressed opinions. Don't think that because you write your will that is what will happen. My F-in-L did that but his almost ex wife (they hadn't got to the absolute) was able to change it.
