The Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Family History Center presents an Open House on Saturday, October 26, 2002 from 1-5 PM, at 4300 Trailridge Road, SE (East Post and Trailridge), Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Tour a large display room of local family memorabilia, participate in classes, tour the recently remodeled and expanded Family History Center to find out what we have that can help you, and have a light refreshment, all at no cost. Classes are: "Where Do I Start?" by Kacy Novak, designed for the beginner. Kacy is a former FHC Director who has helped new researchers extensively. Free packets of forms to organize your information will be available. "Now I've Got It, How Can I Keep It?" by Laura Reichert, discussing record keeping on Personal Ancestral File, a free genealogical program. Laura teaches classes in Family History at Kirkwood Community College. "Using Census Records" by Nathan Jensen, Accredited Genealogist - British Research. This class will emphasize American and British census records. "What is Available for Ethnic Research?" by Michaele Burris, a former FHC Director whose own research has spanned many cultures. The class will discuss the many brochures and aids available through the FHC and elsewhere, and how to find the clues Here that will take you There. "Using the Internet for Research" by Alice Allum, a staff member in the FHC. The class will discuss and demonstrate how to mine the FamilySearch.org web site for the nuggets you need. Classes will be ongoing throughout the afternoon. All events are without charge.
