Although the Oklahoma Historical Research Library will be closed the week of October 7-12, the Oklahoma Genealogical Society will meet as scheduled, Monday, October 7, 2002 in the OHS auditorium. "Organizing Your Genealogical Research" will be the topic of speaker, Janelle Lee. Genealogy is fun when you can find things you've collected, but frustrating when you can't. Janelle will cover some of the basics of organizing materials and also discuss a simple system for organizing pedigree charts, family group records, documents, notes, research tools, etc. This system is based upon the Color-Coded Filing System developed by Mary E.V. Hill, currently Reseach Librarian at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. Janelle is currently a member of the Oklahoma Genealogical Society Board, First Families of the Twin Territories and Chair of the upcoming OGS Centennial Project on Oklahoma School Censuses. Formerly a school librarian and longtime public educator, she has been involved in family history for many years. The meeting will be from 6:00 to 7:30 PM at the Wiley Post Historical Building, 2100 North Lincoln, Oklahoma City, OK. It is a general meeting, open to the public and is free of cost. Volunteers will be on hand at 5:00 p.m. to assist researchers who need help to start the search for family history or need suggestions about where to look next. The Oklahoma Genealogical Society also has a Website at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~okgs/ The next meeting will be November 4, "Using the LDS Family History Center Near You," Speaker, Donna Waddle.
