Orange County Genealogical Society 1841 Historic Courthouse, 101 Main Street, Goshen, NY Saturday, September 7, 2002, 10:30 A.M. CITY DIRECTORIES: A VALUABLE RESOURCE ADDRESSES to WARD BOUNDARIES By Marilyn Terry City directories can be used for a wide variety of reasons, the most obvious being the residence of your ancestor. Other things you might learn; occupation, name of spouse, neighbors, churches, cemeteries. Let's say you know your ancestor worked as an insurance agent, do you know which insurance company? Did your ancestor own his home, rent, live in an apartment, or was he a boarder? This program will help you to understand the ins and outs of city directories. There may not be a city directory specific to where your ancestor lived, this program will provide you with ideas on where you might look. The use of a city directory around 1930 will save you a great deal of time when you are researching the 1930 Census, which is now available to the public. ABOUT OUR SPEAKER Marilyn Terry is 1st. Vice-President of the Orange County Genealogical Society and Program Chairperson. She has been interested in genealogy for more than 25 years and has done extensive research using local City Directories. THIS PROGRAM IS FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC As with most programs if you are traveling any distance it is always wise to call and make sure there aren't any changes in the program time or location. Call Marilyn Terry at 845-562-2749 or you may email her at [email protected] Our monthly meeting will be held at 9:00 A.M., which is open to the public. Why not join us for the meeting and stay for the program. Following the program our research room will be open from Noon to 4:00 P. M.
