Debra Spindle will be the speaker for the Monday night, December 2, meeting of the Oklahoma Genealogical Society in the auditorium of the Wiley Post Historical Building. Her topic will be "Genealogy at the New Downtown Library Learning Center in Oklahoma City." The Center is scheduled to open in the Fall of 2003. Her presentation will cover: the current downtown genealogical collection including those items recently acquired from the Ralph Ellison branch; the ongoing work to enhance, update and enlarge the present collection; and "parking" now and in the future. She also will be seeking audience input related to the development of the genealogical collection. Debra has served as Manager of the Downtown Library in the Metropolitan Library System since 1998 and was reference librarian before that. A former public school and university educator, she recently taught a course on Internet Genealogy for the Downtown College Consortium. She is a member of First Families of the Twin Territories, OGS, Friends of the Archives of OHS, and Daughters of the Republic of Texas. The meeting will be from 6:00 to 7:30 PM at the Wiley Post Historical Building, 2100 North Lincoln, Oklahoma City, OK. It is a general meeting, open to the public and is free of cost. Volunteers will be on hand at 5:00 p.m. to assist researchers who need help to start the search for family history or need suggestions about where to look next.
