    3. EARLY MIGRATION ROUTES TO BE FOCUS OF GENEALOGY MEETING The East Texas Genealogical Society and the Anderson County Genealogical Society will present a special program Saturday, August 2, at 1:30 pm, in Palestine at the Public Library, 1101 Cedar Street. The meeting is free and anyone interested in family research is invited to attend. Pre-registration is not required. The Appalachian Mountains and hostile Indians were the primary barriers that blocked migration and influenced the establishment of early wagon roads. By locating these migration routes and reversing the paths, researchers can determine the most likely original location of their ancestors. Guest speaker, Don Raney, will use maps to locate primary overland migration routes used by pioneers from colonial settlements in New England, Virginia and South Carolina between 1700 and 1815. Mr. Raney is a sixth generation Texan who has been an active genealogist for over twenty-five years. He currently teaches Beginner & Intermediate Genealogy courses at Richland College. He is a past Director of the Dallas Genealogy Society and GENTECH and a life member of the San Jacinto Descendants. He has been a speaker at numerous conferences and society meetings thought out the state. For more information, call Jane at 903-894-6027 or Scott at 903-592-6576 ([email protected]).
