    3. Regular Meeting of East Texas Genealogical Society, Tyler, TX Saturday, September 8, 2007 Tyler Public Library - Taylor Auditorium 2:00 p.m. Speaker: Sammie Townsend Lee Program: "Probates: More Than a Will" It has been said that a man's dying is more the survivor's affair than his own. This statement is especially true if your ancestor died without leaving a will, If he left no will, but you know he owned property, this could be your lucky break. Most family researchers know to check for a will. Many stop there, whether they find a will or not, and never look for other records created by the probate process. Using case studies and other examples, this month's presentation examines the various kinds of probate records-wills and other estate records-with special emphasis on what we can learn about our ancestors from these records. Come learn with us as Sammie Townsend Lee presents a topic every family researcher will use over and over in the quest for their ancestors. Sammie Lee has been a staff member (Library Associate) in the Genealogy Section of the Dallas Public Library since 1989. An active member and past president of the Dallas Genealogical Society, she teaches beginning and intermediate genealogy courses, plus a writing course for the Brookhaven College Senior Adult Program. She is a past editor of the DGS newsletter, as well as editor of the FGS Delegate Digest. She developed and is past leader of the DGS Professional Interest Group. Sammie Lee is a past DGS delegate to the Federation of Genealogical Societies, and is a recipient of the Award of Merit from both the Federation of Genealogical Societies and the Dallas Genealogical Society.
