The Angelina County Genealogical Society will meet for its regular monthly meeting at 5 p.m. Monday, August 20, 2007, in the community room of Kurth Memorial Library, 706 South Raguet Street, Lufkin, Texas. The program will be presented by Jennings Neal Naranjo PhD. of Lufkin on Alzheimer's. He is a licensed professional counselor in Lufkin. Dr. Naranjo presented a previous program to the society this year on his avocation of numismatist, The History of U. S. Currency from Colonial Times. If the City of Lufkin happens to close the library earlier on Monday due preparations for an early evacuation of people from the Texas coastal areas due to Hurricane Dean, the meeting will be rescheduled for the fourth Monday instead. That new date would be on Monday, August 27, 2007, at the same time and place if one of the library meeting rooms is available. I have been watching the weather news concerning Hurricane Dean. It was upgraded to a category 4 earlier tonight and its land fall is uncertain as to time and place. One estimated arrival time and place was somewhere along the Mexico-Texas coast sometime Wednesday after it cut across parts of Mexico. The society officers for the calendar year 2007 are Vivian Cates-President, Fred Preston-Vice-President, June Moffett-Treasurer, and Anita Crona-secretary. An executive board meeting will be held at 4:30 p.m. in the library prior to the regular society meeting at 5 p.m. All officers and standing committee chairmen are urged to attend. Future society business will be discussed. Items/articles are needed for the Fall ACGS Newsletter. Ellen Pyle is the society newsletter editor. The fall newsletter will be published via e-mail about October. All items having an Angelina County, Texas, connection or of general interest to genealogy researchers will be considered. Please consider writing a paragraph or two about one or more of your Angelina County, Texas, ancestors for the society newsletter.
