The Sangamon County Genealogical Society will be hosting a research day Saturday, April 10, from 9 am to 1 pm at the society's office 2856 South 11th, Springfield, Illinois. The focus of the day is Starting Out Fresh: Reviewing Your Resources. The office is located three blocks north of Stevenson Drive on 11th Street and Knox and three blocks south of Bunn Park on 11th Street. Members of the society's board will be available to answer research questions throughout the day. Family history materials from the society's library are available for all to view including microfilmed copies of birth (1877-1916), marriages (1821-1925) and death certificates (1877-1940s) for Sangamon County. Surname and obituary files, Auburn Citizen (1874-1965) and other area newspaper microfilms are also available to view at the office. There will also be examples of what can be found in local newspapers while doing research including tips on where to find your ancestors in these valuable resources. Everyone is welcome to visit the library. Monetary donations are always welcome to help defer the cost of utilities for the day. Tuesday nights in April we will also be open from 6 to 8 for those who can't make it to this event. Come learn how to find those elusive ancestors.
