    3. On Tuesday, February 17, 2009, the Mount Vernon Genealogical Society (MVGS) will meet in room 112 of the Hollin Hall Senior Center in Alexandria, Virginia. The meeting will start at 1:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public. The meeting will feature a presentation entitled "Understanding and Using the Personal Papers Collections at the Library of Virginia." The program will be presented by Trenton E. Hizer. Trenton Hizer currently serves as the Senior Finding Aids Archivist for Private Papers at the Library of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia. He compiled the Guide to the Personal Papers Collections at the Library of Virginia. He received his BA from Old Dominion University and his MA and Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina. He has been at the Library of Virginia since 1997. Mr Hizer will be speaking on the Guide to the Personal Papers Collections at the Library of Virginia and how using the personal papers collections at the Library can assist researchers in their work. He will discuss what genealogical information is hidden in the various collections. He will also mention some of the more unusual items in the Library of Virginia's collection, as well as how the Library is adapting to new types of media (sound, video, digital, internet). The Hollin Hall Senior Center is located 4 miles south of Alexandria just off Fort Hunt Road at 1500 Shenandoah Road in Alexandria, Virginia. MVGS is a nonprofit organization and has over 260 members residing in Alexandria, Fort Belvoir, the counties of Fairfax, Prince William, Montgomery, and Prince Georges, as well as several states.
