Mr. Bausert will be demonstrating the steps involved in the process, which will allow you to assemble all of the pieces you have accumulated and create a lasting Family History record. Mr. Bausert was born and raised in Richmond Hill, Queens and has been a resident of East Meadow since 1973. He has had a varied career in business, photography, lecturing and writing. He became interested in genealogy around the time of his mothers death in 1980 and began his research on a casual basis. He has since self-published his own family history. If you have ever wanted to self-publish your family history, this is the program for you. An Orientation session for beginners and newcomers will be held at 7 PM and the regular meeting will start at 7:30. GGG members and guests will have access to the building beginning at 6:30 PM. ETGS to Present All Day Seminar With Desmond Walls Allen The East Texas Genealogical Society will conduct a seminar featuring national lecturer and author Desmond Walls Allen from 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Saturday, September 13, 2008, at the Smith County Historical Society Auditorium (Old Carnegie Library across the street from the Tyler Public Library), 125 South College, Tyler, Texas in the 2nd floor auditorium. The East Texas Genealogical Society will hold its regular monthly meeting on Saturday, August 9, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at the Tyler Public Library in the Taylor Auditorium. The featured speaker will be Marynell Bryant. Ms. Bryant, a professional researcher and lecturer, is currently serving her third term as President of the Texas State Genealogical Society. She will present a program titled “War of 1812 Records and Resources.” About one out of every fourteen men in the US was involved in the war between June of 1812 and February of 1815. Most Americans today have at least one ancestor that served, and many of the service records, bounty land warrants for service, and pension files are available. Ms. Bryant will discuss the records and how to obtain copies. Approximately thirty minutes following the conclusion of the regular program and refreshments, the Computer Interest Group of the East Texas Genealogical Society will meet with Frances Growchowski who will present a program on “Organization and Files That Work for Me.” ETGS meetings are free and open to the public. FREE ANCESTOR FAIR COMING TO OK HISTORY CENTER Oklahoma Genealogical Society and the Oklahoma Historical Society (OHS) Research Division are sponsoring a second Ancestor Fair at the Oklahoma History Center, 2401 N. Laird Ave., Oklahoma City, OK (across 23rd street from the Governor's mansion). The event is free and the public is invited. Some of the events require a little planning, so prepare your entry for the Genealogy Contest, find those great old family photos, locate a costume for the parade, or prepare a five-minute story for the Open Mic - or just come to watch and have fun. Festivities begin at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 9, 2008, and will continue throughout the day until 4:00 PM. There will be musicians, storytellers - both professional and amateur, artists, musicians, and costumes. A special children's area filled with fun projects will keep young hands busy. There will be representatives from several lineage societies, genealogical and historical groups with handouts and displays to share their interests, historical maps and books to purchase, many interesting costumes to see, photo displays to examine, and great people to meet. Come dressed for the costume parade if you wish. Join the fun by entering contests featuring old photographs and genealogy research. Genealogy Research Contest will be judged in the following categories: 1) Five Generation Study (all ancestors of one individual through their great, great grandparents) 2)Photograph Genealogy (at least 4 generations) 3) Family Line Traced to an Immigrant 4) My Oklahoma Pioneer (story) 5) My Favorite Ancestor (story) 6) A Soldier's Story (any time period or war) 7)Open Class; and these entries are due by Monday August 4.
