It has come to my attention that the National Genealogical Society website for the upcoming conference in Pittsburgh May 28-31 does not show which luncheons are being sponsored by which society or organization. If you are a member of NGS you would have received a preliminary registration announcement with your last newsmagazine showing this information, but not the menus served each day. Since many of us sign up for lunches sponsored by the groups to which we belong (not saying you have to be a member as it is a nice way to meet with others of the same interests), I have listed the luncheons below along with the menus. (You may notice an ethnic theme in the food. Pittsburgh has many cultures which still retain an identity in the area.) Are you interested in learning about your family history? Do you now have a computer and Internet access? This interactive workshop will show you how to use your computer at home and the Internet to document and research your family. This workshop will introduce some popular software programs and techniques for using them effectively. The class will also demonstrate several of the major on-line data sources for American genealogy available and how to use them effectively. This workshop is not meant to be a Genealogy 101 class teaching you all of the techniques that you will use as you delve deeper into this hobby, nor are we going to show techniques for researching in other countries. A workshop project will be done to use the tools and sources to actually build a family tree. Participants interested in having their tree started should bring with them names and birth information on their parents and grandparents." For more information please contact Thomas C. Hi listers The next meeting of the Computer Group of the Oxfordshire Family History Society will be held next Monday 2 December 2002 at Oxford University Computing Services, 13 Banbury Road, Oxford. The evening will be hosted by our society webmaster and Computer Group panel member Malcolm Austen, who will be talking about "Organising your web browsing". I assume that this will be a demonstration of the effective use of Microsoft Internet Explorer, with possibly a look at one or two lesser-known browsers as well. Thoughtful use of your web browser can make all the difference in your effective use of the internet, so this should be a valuable tutorial.
