    1. [GEN-EVENTS-L] OHDARKE ListFest June 21,2003 (Darke Co. researchers get-together)
    2. John Cramer 03/27/2003 12:27 PM Subject: ccs-OHDARKE ListFest June 21,2003 (Darke Co. researchers get-together) FYI Date: Mon, 24 Mar 2003 21:47:21 -0500 From: "Torres, Jane E" <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Subject: [OHDARKE] ListFest 2003 (Darke Co. researchers get-together) Hi Folks, IT'S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN!!! It's time to really begin to get the ball rolling on this year's ListFest. As many of you know, we have an annual get-together of Darke Co. researchers in Greenville. This is your opportunity to actually get to know many of the people you have been talking to for many months. We all bring our research and compare notes, etc., eat quite an enjoyable luncheon and just generally have a great time! In the past, Susie Kendall has brought a large number of area research books from the Preble Co. Library where she is the Director. I hope that she will be able to do this again. We often have local authors attending (who hopefully have brought along a few books in case we would like to buy one) and usually members of the Darke County Genealogical Society are in attendence. Last year the Society brought some hard to find items to sell and as I understand, were most pleased with the results. If things work out as planned, we will also be having an award-winning digital photo restoration expert giving a short program. WHEN: Saturday, June 21st 2003 WHERE: Shawnee Prairie Preserve, St. Rt. 502, Greenville, OH WHAT: ListFest 2003 - e-mail list get-together and carry-in ADDITIONAL: Anyone with an interest in Darke County genealogy and history is invited. As in former years, we will be having a carry-in luncheon around noon BUT this year we will discuss having it catered in 2004 if we vote to continue next year. Tom has informed me that the Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure will be returning to Greenville from Brookville on the same day as the ListFest. This COULD make lodging difficult so I would suggest if you will need a motel to think about making your reservations soon! ListFest List: We also have an e-mail list devoted to discussion and planning of the ListFest. If you would like to subscribe, send me a personal e-mail (to [email protected]) and I'll subscribe you. You can read about last year's ListFest and watch for further updates at: http://www.dcoweb.org/listfest/listfest.htm HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL IN JUNE! --Jane Torres -- JohnW Cramer -- JWCramer-HillTopUSA [email protected] Also [email protected] Web URL: http://jwcramer.freeyellow.com/ Ohio Ancestors: CRAMER MARCHAL SCHMITT<SMITH>HIPPLE TRICK LOY Roots are from Darke Co. 1. [GEN-EVENTS-L] The City/State thing
    2. I'm sorry, but I really think I've read enough about the City/State saga. Let's just leave it alone. Whoever started this made their point and I for one am getting a little sick of reading these things on every listing that I get every day. Please stop with telling everyone how to put their listings. It has already been said that whomever, Paul, I think, will work on doing it with the City/State in there. It's silly to keep on with this issue. Let us who just want to read the listings of the seminars read them and don't clutter up the page with how "YOU" think things should be listed. If you have a question, just ask it of the person who left the listing instead of criticizing every way that everyone does their listings. I just wanted to say my peace. Renee

    3. Since the country is the most recognizable of the three parameters, why not place the country in the body of the message. This would help keep clutter from the subject line, which ideally should be short and to the point. In the Gen-Events list, the key point is the subject of the event. Geographic location could then be placed in the first line of the message. Just one woman's opinion, but some of us read the list for content not location. 3. Listen folks, this isn't rocket science and we aren't rocket scientists. Let KISS it - Keep IT Stupidly Simple List the City, State or Location & Country in the Subject line. I could care less about the FASG, but I may want to go to something in Traverse City, MI if I saw Traverse City, Michigan in the subject line. I just had to read a message twice because the city was listed in the middle of the paragraph. I really don't want to miss something that will be beneficial to me or others. (I forward several of these notes to others closer to where they are being offered.) Most of us genealogy addicts subscribe to more that one list and get between 25 and 100 messages a day. If the location is listed in the subject line, you spend much less time in the mailbox and can get more research done. Hey, isn't that why we go to these GENEALOGICAL EVENTS, to learn how to research more effectively. I really don't mean to open another can of worms here but enough is enough, don't you think. It's not a USA or UK thing, it's simply being courteous and considerate of other busy, name hungry, connecting genealogists. Thanks, Cindy EXAMPLE - GEN-EVENTS-L GTAGS Seminar (Uh, duh, we know it is a GEN EVENT List item, it says so in the From Line) Don't recognize GTAGS as being in US or UK. Must read body of note. 2. Paul Gaskell
    3. Hi Alan > Those of us who live in the United States and in the United Kingdom have a tendency to assume the whole world knows about us and our areas. As a result we are often guilty of talking about events without adequately specifying the location. As the final word on this thread, I would like to apologise for not mentioning "UK" in the subject line of this post. In fact, I usually mention "UK", but last night's message was meant to be a reminder to our local lists about this weekend's events. Unfortunately, I must have had a twitchy finger, as I sent it to more lists than intended ! Again, please accept my apologies.
