    3. Hello, An October 4 workshop sponsored by the East Tennessee Historical Society entitled "New Horizons in Genealogy" will explore the capabilities and limitations of DNA testing and Internet-based research as research tools for today's genealogist. The workshop will focus on the basic use, as well as offer more advanced tips for personal research problems. The workshop will be held Saturday, October 4, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Carolyn P. Brown University Center on the campus of the University of Tennessee. Advance registration is required. Admission is $30 for ETHS members and $38 for non-members. Reservations may be made online at the ETHS web site at http://www.east-tennessee-history.org or by calling 865-215-8824. Guest speakers for the workshop will be Diahan Southard, a molecular genealogist with Relative Genetics, a DNA analysis laboratory in Salt Lake City, Utah. The laboratory is specifically dedicated to the use of genetic analysis in genealogical research. Ms. Southard is a graduate of Brigham Young University where she received a BS degree in microbiology. Also on the program will be Ruth Schweitzer Pratt, a specialist in the application of computers, the Internet, and video technologies to genealogy.
