I will agree with advertising in Evertons Gen. Helper. They really helped me get off the ground, just over 5 years ago. However, since I began advertising on the Internet, two years ago, I have stopped all outside advertising other then donating subscriptions to State and Large City and County Libraries. I have received many subscriptions after people have seen my newsletters in Libraries. I donate to 20 libraries and I have even more that subscribe from me.....how?? I sent fliers to their genealogical departments. Start up a List for that Sir Name. I have the Ballard List and the Hite List. I have a Ballard newsletter. I don't have a Hite newsletter. I give away tons of material on the Ballard List. I have more then 100,000 Ballards and their history, wills and so on in my data base, from years of research in many state libraries and tons of micro-film with census records.. The members, more then 200 submit data, (cemetery records, marriages, history) for the Ballard List. If it is material that I believe would be great for the newsletter, Ballards of America, then I ask for permission to use it in the newsletter. One of the things I do with my newsletter subscribers is make it known that submissions and queries are unlimited for subscribers. They walk cemeteries and send me the information. They send me wills from estate records and so on. 90-95% of my material is submitted for each issue. You have to work up a large group to draw from. I have over 500 Ballard researchers that I am corresponding with by either email or snail mail. We are working together to join all the Ballard Branches in the US. Lynne D.
