Good morning list. Over the week end i put Incredimail on to my computer and now i wish to take off again, but when i have gone into the computer to remove it it is not on the list to remove so please can someone be able to help me please, Many thanks, Jill.
Hi Jill, I'm not so good at any of this unless you have Windows XP. If you have Windows XP; bring up the Start menu, hover over All Programs until the list of programs appears, go to Accessories and hover again until another menu appears, then choose System Tools. Hover again until yet another menu appears and choose or click on System Restore. System Restore will show an option 'Restore to an earlier date'. Choose that option and click next at the bottom of the page. Then follow the prompts to choose a date earlier than the date that you installed Incredimail. If you don't have Win XP, someone else will need to help you. Why don't you like Incredimail? I don't know anything about it at all. What is it? Thank you, Lance, for telling me what Incredimail is all about. I'll know should I ever come across it again. Hello listers, I am still having trouble with Encrypt. I keep having to untick it from the Tools list on emails. A tick It keeps going back of it's own accord. How can I get rid of the tick permanently? TIA Marie
Marie, would you like to try this? I suspect you are un-ticking in the Tools area when you have a new message open. There is another Tools place. Open Outlook Express. Now, BEFORE you open a new message, go to TOOLS [up the top of the screen, between View and Message. When you have clicked on that TOOLS then click on OPTIONS. Then click on the SECURITY tab. Look down the box and there is a place which says: "Encrypt contents and attachments for all outgoing messages" If there is a tick in that box, just remove it, click on Apply then OK. Juliette Hendry
Jill, if you had installed it in a normal Windows fashion, it would show in ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS. As it doesn't, it should have an "uninstall" icon in the program folder so use that. Then you can safely DELETE the remaining folders/files that were from Incredimail. You can also do a FIND for IncrediMail and delete the files that appear. You should then follow the instructions in this Microsoft article which will help with the registry entries which will appear in the registry: OLEXP: "Cannot Find Incredimail.exe" Error Message When You Open Attachment After Removing Incredimail: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q297069 For those who have not heard of Incredimail, it is a mail program which allows you to create messages with a number of fancy options (using HTML). However, Incredimail is a form of spyware and they even state that in their USER AGREEMENT. Most people NEVER read the "fine print" in those statements and just click "I Agree" (Incredimail rely on this failing of users). Here is the agreement: [QUOTE] GENERAL USAGE PATTERNS IncrediMail may gather information related generally to Users' use of the Software, Service, and Site including without limitation: The number of Messages that a User sends; The number of Messages that are read; What elements of the Service are most often used; User log-in dates and time; and Message size data. This information, which will only be collected and maintained in aggregate, anonymous form, will be used to, among other things: Provide IncrediMail with a better understanding of how Users use the Service and the various features thereof; Help IncrediMail to create and provide new services and offerings to Users; and Conduct and publish aggregate, anonymous, market research results. COMPUTER SETTINGS IncrediMail may collect settings, technical and other information from Users' computers, such as a computer's operating system, IncrediMail and browser versions used, connectivity, various communication parameters and other information related to the operation and interaction of the Software, subject to the provisions herein. This information will neither contain nor be linked to any personally identifiable information. CONSENT TO PROCESSING Users, including without limitation, Users in the European Union, fully understand and unambiguously consent to the collection and processing of their personally identifiable and non-personally identifiable information, in the United States." [END QUOTE] By all means, if you are happy to have them using all of your information, use the product. If you don't like having your activities monitored by a third party - DON'T! The other point with Incredimail is that messages are created in HTML. This is one way of having nice colourful messages, full of active icons - all very nice. HTML is one vehicle viruses use for transmitting themselves. HTML increases the size of a simple message to a very large size. For people who have limited downloads this an unwarranted burden to receive, especially if it is a message which could have been sent in plain text, without the embellishments of Incredimail. The best rule is always use PLAIN TEXT. It causes no problems for anyone and is the required medium on the majority of lists and groups.
