Hi listers, My Family History Programme is the Ultimate Family Tree de Luxe which I have been happily running on Win98. I am now running on XP which will not accept my UFT programme. Not being 'computerate' I have no idea how I can transfer my information to my new computer without literally starting over. Not a prospect I relish. As my Win98 computer crashed never to rise again I am stuck for converting the file to GEDCOM and transferring by that route. I am backed up on a Iomega zip file. Also, can anyone recommend a FH Programme if I have to go the hard route. TIA Heather

When you say that XP will not accept your UFT program, do you mean that it will not install or that it will not run once installed? >Not being 'computerate' I have no idea how I can transfer my information >to my new computer without literally starting over. As long as you have a good backup file you should be able to restore that and not lose any data. >Also, can anyone recommend a FH Programme if I have to go the hard route. As for recommending a program, I shall write you off-list and give you some pros and cons of different programs. Take care, Art
Heather, does WIN XP give you a message: This program is not compatible with WIN XP (or similar}? Very often this message is erroneous as happens with The Master Genealogist Ver 4. Now as far as a new program. TMG Ver 5 has many of the features in UFT and will make a direct import using GenBridge (trade mark of Wholly Genes Inc.) from your UFT files or backup. Many former UFT users are now using TMG. Join TMG-L and ask there how former UFT users like the program and how difficult the transition is. I trust that your new XP machine has a compatible Iomega drive. bob gillis heather smith wrote: > > Hi listers, My Family History Programme is the Ultimate Family Tree de Luxe which I have been happily running on Win98. > I am now running on XP which will not accept my UFT programme. > > Not being 'computerate' I have no idea how I can transfer my information to my new computer without literally starting over.
